Hmm.. how come all the "horrible" comments are reserved for Asha?
This cassette can be bought for Asha Bhosle's song alone! The rest are
just bonuses. The way she seems to enjoy herself in this song makes
it a must-hear.
The starting lines of the song are:
koun mila mujhe hai re
baadal banke chaai re
paas jo aaye
nain milaaye
saanson mein aag si aae re
dil hain ki dhadke hi jaae re
Each time she comes back to these lines she sings it differently.
And in one of those, she gives a wonderful stuttering effect to the
ending words "h-h-aai re", "ch-ha-aai re". Would like to see someone
else carry that off as neatly as Asha.
The tune has a prominent folk flavor. As does the other song "kahti
hai purvaai" (Sudesh and Bhupen Hazarika).
And how long has it been since we heard a lullaby like "aayee neend
dheere se raat mein"? Kavita Krishnamurthy sings this one really well.
Udit Narayan's solos, "itna bata do mujhe", "paas mere aao" were
pleasant melodies. Not to forget the Udit-Kavita duet "shaam dhali ban
mein", which is a nicely done duet.
Bhupen Hazarika clearly shows that he is pretty versatile, and not just
Lata-Rudaali-'dil hoom hoom'.
The lyrics are by Javed Akhtar. It is released by Plus Audio, who
still maintain a strong record of providing better music than the
rest (Stay away from their non-film releases though). Their list
reads something like this:
Papa Kehte Hai - Rajesh Roshan (Javed Akhtar)
Bhairavi - Laxmikant-Pyarelal (Amit Khanna)
Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin - M.M.Kreem (?)
Ek Aur Prem Kahani - Illayaraja (Amit Khanna)
Sardari Begum - Vanraj Bhatia (Javed Akhtar)
Saaz - Zakir, Raj Kamal, Yashwant, Bhupen (Javed Akhtar)
Gudgudee - Bappi Lahiri (Yogesh, Amit Khanna)
Bappi Lahiri shines in "Gudgudee". Check out Kumar Sanu in "har pal
chahe mera dil" (lyrics: Yogesh). A beautiful melody with right amount
of orchestration. (Anupam Kher makes fun of Bappi in the movie where
he says, before a song, "Bappi Lahiri ka naya gaana" - with emphasis
on "naya" :). It is nice album with good melodies.
