Tri Atma specializes in fusing Eastern musical elements with Western
electronic pop. In 1982, the duo met Klaus Netzle, a veteran German record
and television producer who brought the space-age sounds of the Fairlight
and Synclavier computer synthesizers to their music. As a fan in Amazon.com
(www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000003YYU/qid=1023088797/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1
/104-7478298-7121512) says, "Tri Atma's music is an amalgam of sampled
ethnic and classical keyboard sounds, classical/ flamenco guitar and
eastern/ Indian percussion set to a world beat rythm some times bordering on
island reggae with the overtones of old world European traditional folk
instrumentation and classically trained musicianship"

A bizarre rejoinder to this story..
I was ruffling through some old records in the early 90's in an old
record shop (where else?) at - of all places - Oklahoma, when I saw
this Tri-Atma LP and bought it for $1. It's in some cupboard back in
India. :-)
I had never heard of this group before I saw it at that store. In
fact, the only time I've heard the group being referenced is the above
post by you. What is so stunning about the whole thing is that
*someone* actually went out and bought a Indo-German fusion album in
Oklahoma in the 1970's. Bizarre! :-)
[To give an analogy, it is like finding a Charlie Parker album in
Gorakhpur]
Equally astounding was a Dave Brubeck quartet LP (Again $1) called
"Jazz visions of Eurasia" whose cover featured Brubeck wearing a
turban and surrounded by Panam airhostesses (of Indian origin) wearing
sarees. It had a tune called 'Calcutta Blues" (circa 1958) where he
plays the sax like a shehnai accompanied by the round drum typical of
shehnai performances. Very good!
Once again, it is languishing back in some cupboard at home in
Bangalore. :-(
Oh, for those days of great LP artwork!
Cheers
Arun [ducking from the tomatoes thrown by Gorakhpur loyalists] Simha
And yes, I've never heard of them either till I started digging info after
seeing the Discovery Channel program.

Yup, I made a mistake while composing the sentence. I meant to write,
"he composed a tune where he had the sax player make his instrument
sound like a shehnai".
Cheers

This movie had a song which goes like " Kasam se Kasam, O rabba kasam
se". If some one get the rare opportunity to listen to this song, dont
blame me for rthis song reminding you of Siyaram commercial. I guess
Anand Milind were the music duo. Bechare choer-chor mausere bhai.
Inspiration is something which is accepted but Chori is not
pardonable.
Thanks. Let me know about this chori chori.
