For all you know the whole movie may have been a hindi remake of charade. Both Charade and Gumnaam are suspense thrillers (Is that right?)
so that is quite likely.

What's new ?? Most of the Indian music directors have copied at some point or
the other including the stalwarts like SD and Nayyar and SJ. I think Bappi
bears the unfortunate brunt of the whole thing, and I am not sure exactly why.
RD has done a large amount of lifting, as have Rajesh Roshan and LP. One of the
best songs from "Maine Pyaar Kiya" (the title song) was a direct lift, although
I do think that Ram-Lakshman does a very good job with the orchestration which
is his own arrangement. But that is completely a different post and I will
probably get on the soapbox later sometime :-) :-) and vent.

"Gumnaam" is an Indianized version of the Agatha Christie book "Ten Little
Indians" which has been made a few times by Hollywood. "Charade" on the other
hand has no connection with "Gumnaam" other than perhaps the similarity of
music (the title music). It has been ages since I have seen it, probably must
go back and watch it again.
The music directors for "Gumnaam" are Shankar-Jaikishen. It also has the duet
by Rafi and Sharda "Jaane chaman shola badan, pehlu me aa jaao". Nice song.

Gumnam is the remake of Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians".
Charade is far too sophisticated a film for Indian filmmakers to plagerize!
