It is simply one of the best new film music on the market today. The
music is by Rajesh Roshan and the lyrics are penned by Javed Akhtar.
Mahesh Bhatt seems to be in his "Daddy" mood with this movie. There are 6
songs in the movie and 5 of the songs are excellent. The best of the pack
is "Yeh joh thode se hain paise". I would advise music lovers to check
out this album and post their opinions about the songs. 9 stars out of a
perfect 10.

Could you tell me who has sung the songs? Who stars in the movie?
Thanks in advance!

- Sandeepan.

List of Songs in Papa Kehte Hain:

1) Ghar Se Nikalte Hi - Udit Narayan

2) Pyar Mein Hota Hai - Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik

3) Ye Jo Thode Se Hain Paise - Kumar Sanu

4) Mujh Se Naaraz Ho To - Sonu Nigam

5) Pehla Pyar Ka - Kavita Krishnamurthy

6) Hum Dulhan Wale - Kumar Sanu, Poornima

Don't know the stars, sorry.

Directed by: Mahesh Bhatt
Lyrics: Javed Akhtar
MD: Rajesh Roshan

BTW, just a few comments about Sonu Nigam. I know that it is a tendency
today to label a new singer by comparing him to older ones. Sonu has been
compared to Rafi on many occasions. The song in this movie is also
reminiscent of Rafi's older ghazal-type numbers. Do you think that it is
fair for new and upcoming singers to stereotyped from the start in the
film industry. From talking to upcoming singers in India, as well as Sonu,
it seems that MD's will give auditions and ask the new singers who their
voice resembles. Then, will ask the singer to immitate that person in
their singing. If they do not do this, they jeopardize their chances in a
competitive field. Just a few things to think about...

Do you think that this is fair?

Would you rather hear singers that can copy older singers or produce
"their own" voices?

What singers today do you feel give their own renditions of songs?

I agree 100% with your statement of Amit Kumar not being a copy
cat. It is indeed creditable that he has his own singing style although he
could have easily copied Kishore Kumar and hid behind the fact that as KK
was his father, their voices are similar.
But it is also a sad fact that original voices are given a raw
deal (like in the case of Amit Kumar) and copy cats like Kumar Sanu are
allowed to flourish.

All the same, I'm not too sure about Nitin Mukesh.....

IMHO, the following present day playback singers have their own rendition:

1. S.P.Balasubramaniam
2. K.J.Yesudas
3. Udit Narayan [IMO, he sometimes imitates Rafi's style (not voice though)]
4. Hariharan
5. Suresh Wadkar (sp?)
6. Jagjit Singh
7. Pankaj Udhas
8. Talat Aziz
9. Lata Mangeshkar
10. Asha Bhosle
11. Ila Arun
12. Alisha Chenoy
13. Chitra Singh
14. Chitra

Copy cats:

1. Kumar Sanu (He used to copy Kishore and I don't understand his nasal
stuff. It amazes me that he survives even after being so
irritating to the ears. Sorry, couldn't help commenting.)
2. Abhijeet
3. Vinod Rathod
4. Sudhesh Bhosle (The most interesting one of all)
5. Babla Mehta
6. Mohammed Aziz
7. Shabbir Kumar

I have heard that Anuradha Paudwal used to imitate Lata and recently I heard
somebody imitate Asha (can't remember who).

Also I have avoided calling Amit Kumar and Nitin Mukesh as copy cats,
intentionally.

Regards,

- Fazel

PS: On the fairness of copycats, I don't know if it is the singer, MD, the
music companies or the masses (including you an me) to be blamed. Beats
me.

I definitely agree with you. I think people are just getting used to him.
I really hate it when he goes to high pitch (which he is doing now-a-days,
very confidently too!!). I can't resist cupping my ears when he does that.
I know that there are quite a few (or lot!!) KS fans on this net and I'm
sorry if I hurt their feelings. But right from AASHIQUI to DDLJ, almost all the
songs he sang sound very similar and monotonous to me. I dont know whether I'm
prejudistic in making this comment.

I agree with you. Amit Khanna's Plus Production was music oriented. Cassette released in Plus Music. Udit Narayan excelled in "Ghar Se Nikalthe Hi". Wonderful album.
