Song: Maayoos to hoon vaade se tere
Kuchh aas nahin kuchh aas bhi hai
Main apne khayaalon ke sadqe
Tu paas nahin aur paas bhi hai
Film: Barsaat ki Raat (1960)
Singer: Mohammed Rafi
Music: Roshan
Lyrics: Sahir Ludhianvi
*ing: Bharat Bhushan, Madhubala
Many things about this song make it the profoundly fascinating
melody that it is - Sahir's evocative poetry, Roshanlal's
soul-stirring music, Rafi's Midas touch to this magical confluence
of words and notes, the symbolic setting in a blacksmith's
yard ("Dinu Luhaar ki dukaan", the rendezvous for the clandestine
romance in this movie), etc..
What makes this song most unforgettable for me, in addition to
all of these, is its unusual musical accompaniment- a blacksmith's
work apparatus ! The song sets in on some soulful strains on the
rhythm of Dinu's hammer, captures the momentum of the rising emotions
in the song on the same beat of metal striking metal, rises to a
crescendo with the pathos in the scene and concludes on the forlorn
hiss of hot metal plunged into water - a futile end to a painful wait.
It is sheer brilliance, and bears eloquent testimony to Roshanlal's
musical genius. I especially like the second antaraa of the song,
set beautifully by Roshan in some rather low notes :
Palkon pe larazte ashkon mein
Tasveer jhalakti hai teri
Deedar ki pyaasi aankhon ko
Ab pyaas nahin aur pyaas bhi hai
I couldn't imagine a better song to end the tribute to Rafi-saab

Yes it is! It's a pity that many Barsaat Ki Raat soundtracks do not include
this number, based on the same Mishra Piloo strains that carry the more
famous "Maine Shaayad Tumhen".

Yep. This is my favorite part of the song too.
