Does anyone know if Ismail Merchant was involved in any way with the song
"Kaahe Chhed Mohe" from the recent Devdas?

Sorry, I mean Ismail Darbar, not Ismail Merchant.

Yip, It is a Birju Maharaj Composition but interstingly enough, Ismail
Darbar was there at the recording adn thats also where Madhuri decided ti
visit. It was then that Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ismail Darbar thought it
would be great to get Madhuri to participate in the song, so thats why
Madhuri herself recites those lines in the song> i read this on the movie's
website.

I know that, but I was just wondering that since Darbar is credited as composer
of the entire album (except for the theme) whether he was involved in some
small way, since it fits so well with the rest of the songs.

He might be involved in the orchestration and arrangements.
