"banri" is a colloquial way of saying "banni" which means bride,
daughter, kanyaa (Hindi), etc.
I can't be sure but I think 'meri banri ki god bhari' is not a song
that refers directly to childbirth or welcoming the newborn. It's
more likely that it's referring to the ritual known as 'god bharaai'
that's part of the prenuptial ceremonies. The ritual itself is most
probably derived from fertility rituals, but in and of itself it does
not refer to the woman being with child (pregnant) or having delivered
one.
-UVR.
This, in all probability, is a "god~bharaaii" song.
But "god~bharaaii" is NOT considered a prenuptioal ceremony.
When a girl, AFTER marriage, becomes pregnant, then the
relatives perform this ceremony. An example from our movies
would be "Miss Mary" (1957), where Meena Kumari's "god~bharaaii"
ceremony is shown in detail.
Afzal
Another example of God Bharaai from Filhaal:
I think 'god harii/god bhari' both may refer to a girl becoming
pregnant, rather than having delivered a child. Could be wrong though.
It certainly has to do with having or expecting a child.

Thanks all of you - UVR , Afzal Khan , Abbasi and Vijay .
I understand that the song under reference does not suit the

Afzal saahib,
There is a ceremony called 'god bharaai' in the prenuptials rituals

UVR Saheb,
I am grateful for the information. However, this pre-nuptial
"god~bharaaii" ceremony is observed amongst our Hindu brethren,
as per the above website. The film "Ek Din Ka Sultan" is set
in Mughal times. It has been more than 60 years since I saw
the film. So I don't quite recollect the situation in which
the above song occurs in the film. Lastly, I don't think the
original querist was looking for a "god~bharaaii" song as part
of any pre-nuptial ceremonies.
Afzal
A couple of songs that come to mind:
- cha.nda se hogaa wo pyaaraa (a rare PBSreenivas Hindi song!). This
is not entirely appropriate since the song talks above the expected
birth of a child, but it is a lovely song and may fit your needs.
- pyaaraa hamaaraa munnaa (Sansar).
C
UVR Sir , this does not fit the occasion .

I heard the song, which sort of rekindled old hazy memories.
It is clearly a song AFTER the birth of the child. Also,
the sentiments expressed at the beginning of the song were
quite progressive, not merely in respect of the time-period
depicted in the film, but also in respect of the relatively
modern period when the film was made, i.e. the 1940's. At
that time, and even today, people prefer a male child. Apart
from other considerations, I have never been able to under-
stand why people forget that without females, increase in
progeny is not possible.
To sum up, I feel that it is a post-nuptial and post-natal
song, celebrating the birth of a male child.
Also, the word in the first line is "hari". This phrase-cum-
prayer is very common in Urdu/hindi --- "Teri god hari rahe" OR
"Allah teri god hari rakhe".

Many thanks Afzal Saheb ,
Can you kindly let me know
the exact words
used by the group of ladies announcing the birth of the child .
The dialogue goes in like this - sarkaar , sarkaar , sarkaar - - - - -
-
later part I could not follow / understand .
Very nice song indeed even after 60 plus years .
Warm regards ,
k
1. pyara hamara munna nainon ka taara
2. chanda se hoga wo pyaara (again before birth)
3. chanda hai tu mera suraj hai tu
4. munna bada pyaara ammi ka dularaa

I think among most hindu's it is not customery
to have a celeberation immediately after a child is born .
The first celeberation is probably the cradle ceremony / jhoola /
naming ceremony and hence no songs / occasionally a song
appeared in movies .
