these are not rigorous translations - but fairly accurate meanings. Rigorous
translation from sanskrit to English is a big pain in the neck because of
several things such as differences in grammatical construction and
differences arising out of cultural context. Hoever I hope that these meanings
shall suffice your purpose.
Regarding adding to the collection - well I have a handwritten collection of
more than thousand subhaaashitas. These were all collected when I learnt
sanskrit in highschool over three years. As and when I get time I shall add to
the ITRANS library from my notebooks.

A serpent is appealing in (a state of) intoxication, water, because of
lotuses, the night because of a full moon, a woman because of (good)
character, a horse because of its' speed, a temple because of regular
festivals, language by (correct) grammar, a well by a pair of swans, a
meeting by scholars, a family by a good son, the earth by a king and all
the three worlds because of vishnu.

just as a chariot cannot move with just one wheel,

Correction: second line : yudhi vikramaH and not udhi vikramaH
Courage during bad times, forgivance during prosperity, oratorial skills in a
meeting, valour in a war, ???? during fame, and addiction to knowledge - all
these come naturally to great people.

precious stones cannot be found on every mountain - a diamond cannot be found
on every elephant (exdplanation - THe Airawat elephant belonging to Indra had
a diamond in his forehead), - Good people are not everywhere - sandalwood is
not in every forest.

It is difficult to earn money, and to protect the earnings. Income as well as
Expenditure give pain - Fie on Money ! - which is the cause of hardship.

Correction: it should be devaH and not deva.
Meaning. THose who do not have armstrength (physical strength) and those who
do not have mental strength, What good can god do to them being resident in
the sky ?

wars are The five qualities of ( a good man).

The cloud in sharad ritu does not pour, only thunders. HOwver the cloud in
varsha ritu silently pours. The inferior man talks but does not perform wheras
the great man simply performs without talking.

From where will the lazy man get knowlkedge ? How will the ignorant man earn
money?

scholar, and he is well versed in the scriptures, he is the on;y speaker, and
he is handsome.... All other qualities take shelter with gold.

i do not have a sanskrit dictinary at hand and so may have got "maanikya" and "mouktika" inaccurate.

My translation to this was way off. It should be:

In the one below, i forgot to include the word "gunaGyaH" in the translation.
