Song: Bahaaren Bech Daali, Funk Dala~~ Ashiyaa~na
Bus, Zara Si Yaad Rakh Li Za~l`im Tere Dikhane Ko
Ai Pyaar Teri Duniya Se Hum Bas Itani Nishani Le Ke Chale
Ek Tuta Hua Dil Saath Raha, Aankhon Me Ye Paani Le Ke Chale ...
Film: Zanzar (1953)
Music: Ramchandra Chitalkar
Lyrics: Rajendrakrishna
Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
*ing: ?
I know three Lata gems from this Chitalkar-Lata co-production of 1953. But this
song is peak of them all. There are not many Lata songs under Chitalkar's able
direction, where she sings such high. Particularly the opening couplet is sung
unusually higher notes, noting the fact that the music director is maestro
Ramchandra Chitalkar. But amazingly Lata never loses her sweetness nor any note.
EMI has done good justice to C Ramchandra by issuing an album (it's very old LP)
where this and other gems from Hangama (52), Sipahiya (49), Sangita (50),
Samadhi (49) etc. are accommodated.
The other two songs that I know are:
Chhed Gayo Mohe Sapane Me Shyaam
Ankh Khuli To Main Akeli Thi Ram
and
Ji Chahata Hai Ab To Jahan Se Ruth Jaen
Both are good numbers.
PS: Please correct the second line of the song ('Ek Tuta Hua ..' may not be
proper).
Snehal> Film: Zanzar (1953)
V. Shantaram made one movie in mid-eighties named "Zanzaar". Does anybody
remember details ? It had one song that had caught my attention at that
time.
BTW, movie Snehal is referring to might be "zanzar" i.e. "paayal". One that
I am referring to might mean something else, probably "pralay". CAn anybody
confirm ?

Thanks for the lovely song, Snehal. Couple of corrections.

It is 'Jhanjhar' (perhaps the word is 'jhaanjhar'.)

As you say, it was one of the films co-produced by CR and Lata, under the
banner New Sai Productions. It starred Motilal, Kamini Kaushal, and Ushakiran.
Director was Kidar Sharma. Wonder if it has any songs written by him.

I beg your pardon! How does one LP do justice to the CR-Lata compositions?
You need a box of 10 at least, and just for solos.
There was some discussion of a more recent movie with a similar name. It was
V. Shantaram's 'Jhanjhaar' of 1987, starring Sushanta Roy, Ranjana, Padmini
Kolhapure, and Sudhir Pandey. The MDs were Kalyanji-Anandji. (For Shantaram?
How have the mighty fallen? :))

PS: What do the word (or words) 'jhaanjhar' and 'jhanjhaar' mean? The
dictionary says 'jhaanjhar' means: something that is penetrated or with
holes; figuratively heart penetrated by the arrows of beauty! Is it
far-fetched or really so?

How come mighty KA are considered "fallen" when they work with VS ? :-)
Ashok, ofcourse I understand what you mean, but maybe they were the
best available at the time.
