Back when Radio Ceylon used to dominate the air waves in India, there were
many programs that would begin or end with a signature songs. I would like
to get a list of the popular programs and their signature songs/tunes. Any
one want to contribute?

Thanks...

Deepak

I can recall two.

1) For "Hamesha Jawaan Giit" it was "abhii to main jawaan huun" a non-filmi
song by Malika Pukhraj

2) For "Aap Ke Anurodh Par" it was "tum jo saath raat bhii hasiin hai" by
Lata from the movie Mohar

Some other song based programs were

. ek hi film ke giit
. badalte saathi
. ek aur anek
. do giit do ghazal (not sure...it cud be "do rang..."...this was probably
the programme where they used to play
tandem songs a lot).

On Wednesday nights, probably from 10.00 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.,
Radio Ceylon used to broadcast a programme called "Kal Aur
Aaj", where two songs would be played, either by the same
MD or same lyricist etc. One of the two would be from an
earlier period and the other of very recent vintage.
Altogether, there would be four such "pairs". I don't quite
recall the "signature" music representing the "Kal" part,
but the music for the "Aaj" part comprised the opening
notes of the "Patrani" song "O, O, O, Balma tum bedardi...".
"Patrani" stg. Vyjayanthimala was released in 1956, I think.
And to imagine that this "Aaj" song has itself become
ancient history !

Mr. Kalra remembers quite a few of such "signature" songs.
Once, I think he mentioned the song for the programme
"Nayee Filmon Ke Geet" on this NG, but I can't recall
it now.

What was the 8AM program that starts with the "naagin" signature tune
and used to play all the new and forthcoming songs?

CORRECTION
============

For 'Hameshan Jawaan Geet', which used to be relayed on Sunday
from: 10 to 11 PM, the signature song's title is correct, but
it was not the Non-Film song of Malika Pukhraj, but from
the film:

AFSANA / Husnlal Bhagatram / by: Lata

Every few months, they would play the complete song. The RMIM
series: ATMJH - Abhi To Main Jawan Hoon, is a direct reference
to this program. It was the best of it's kind and no Radio Station
could match the selection of Radio Ceylon, becuase they didn't
have the records.

Most of my relatively less-known songs collection, I came to know
only from this program (including: KHIDKI / C. Ramchandra / Jalne
Wale Jala Karen ... Kismat Hamre Saath Hai - 2 versions - male and female).

The complete song only lasts 1 minute 32 seconds.

In the fifties, Radio Goa also used to broadcast
Hindi film songs. IIRC, its programme was for an
hour's duration, from 4.00 to 5.00 p.m. At that time,
Goa was of course under Portugese occupation. Those
folks also had a fairly good collection of HFM, but
nothing comparable to Radio Ceylon.

During that period, even Radio Pakistan had a programme
for Indian listeners. It was roughly around the same
time as that of Radio Goa. They had all the (then)
contemporary Hindi Film songs. One particular favourite
of theirs (in 1956) was the "Halaku" number "E~jee
chale aao, thumheN aaNkhoN ne dil men.....". The
programme presenter had a most mellifluous voice and she
always made it a point to enunciate the opening words of
the song herself, before playing the record. And this
enunciation was almost as sweet as the song itself !

Those were the days...........

For "Anokhe Bol", Radio Ceylon used to play a song that
contained the words "dumbe ka dumba". I hope someone
would be able to provide some stats for this song.

Thanks a bunch. You are a great resource for
RMIM (and other RMIMers).

BTW, is it "ThiNgni", rather than "Thigni" ?

'bijli ki gati' waale Rawat-ji ( kaun hai jo in ko agwaah kar gayaa),
aur sab 'senior' RMIMers jo aaj kal maidaan chhod gaye hain.
Forgive me all those whose names should have been included
but are missing for practical reasons - blame it on lapse of my
poor memory.

Itne saare 'suraj-on' ki roshni ke saamne to yeh tinkaa 'dazzle'

Phir bhi, aap ki hauslaa-hafzaayi kaa bahut bahut shukriyaa.

I do read, write and speak Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, and a bit
of, unfortunately, only spoken Urdu - Jack of all master of none.
Hence whether it is 'Thigni' or 'ThiNgni' only experts can say.
In Gujarati it is definitely 'ThiNgni'. Not too sure about Hindi
or Urdu. The GeetKosh has it as 'Thigani'.

In Urdu script, the word is written as "ThiNgna" or
"ThiNgnee". I suppose the same should be true of Hindi
i.e. Devanagri script too.

The stating instrumental begining of Madan Mohan's Mohar song by Lata "Tum
Ho Saath Raat bhi hasin hai, Ab to maut ka bhi gaam nahi hai" featured in
one of the Radio Ceylon's program. I think it was "Badalatey Huye Saathi"
but I am not very sure about it.

No, it is not from CHAR CHAND.

But it IS from 'Chaar Chaand'.

Next time don't ask silly questions. If you ever have genuine contradictory
evidence about other matters just produce it.

Bhapa Ji:

Please exclude me out from your list as someone who could
have provided film name and artists' info. for this song.

I never heard this number. May be Rawan-ji ki Lanka was jiving,
while I was out there having my weekly dose of 'Gole Gappas"

Sorry, folks. I hve had no ISP access for over two weeks now, hence
have not read any posts on the ng, and this delayed reply.

The nayee filmon ke geet program on Raido Ceylon used to begin with
the instrumental prelude of the Aah song, "jhanan jhanan jhanan jhanan
ghungharwaa baaje...".

Happy Listenings.
