Thanks very much, these were very interesting articles indeed. Rarely
does one train the spotlight on the musical heritage of Goa and the
contributions of it's musicians to the firament of the sub-continental
musical tradition. It is interesting to note that Goan musicians played
in the courts of the erstwhile maharajas too. I always imagined that to
be a stronghold of ICM.
Another interesting factoid that caught my attention was that most of
these jazz muscians played in hill-stations. Even though I have never
heard any jazz music on my of my hill-station trips somehow the genre
always creates the mood of a chilly hill-station night and the warmth
of a well-lit, cosy room. Uncanny!
I would actually be very curious to hear the raag based symphonies that
Anthony Gonsalves experimented with and hope they see the light of the
day someday.
