'Mann' should go down in the history of Indian cinema as the most shameful
debut for any composer. Composing duo Sanjeev Darshan have literally gone on
a joyride into other's composition to score for a movie which they call
their own. I've already listed 2 blatant lifts - 'Kaali nagin' lifted off
Rachid Taha 'Ya Rayah' and 'Tinak tin tana' lifted from Malaysian pop singer
Iwan's 'Yang sedang-sedang saja'. Many South Indians would note that the
song 'Chaha hai tujko' is a note to note lift from Tamil compsoer S A
Rajkumar's 'Etho oru paattu' from the movie 'Unnidathil Ennai Koduthen'.

Now there's another song that's lifted, again, note to note! 'Nasha yeh
pyaar ka nasha hai' is a direct lift from Italian composer Tuto Cutugno's
1983 number, L'Italiano!! That's 4 lifts in a debut! I wonder if the songs
'Mere mann' and 'Kehna haan tumse kehna' are lifts too.

And go down the film did, indeed!

Back then also (at the time of the film's/music's release), there was talk
about them having copied tunes for various songs, and of having been helped by
their father, Shravan (of the N-S pair). That pair has also been accused
frequently (and not without valid ground) of 'lifting' various tunes,
especially Pakistani numbers including those of the late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali
Khan. According to the music review column by Subhash K. Jha in Filmfare in
Nov. or December, that practice goes on.

And still, despite all that, I did like the music of Mann, esp. the song
"nashaa ye pyaar kaa..." as well as "kaalii naagin...", for Udit Narayan's
full/open throated singing.
Happy listenings.
