It is a mid-60s film about the liberation movement in Goa. The film did
not click commercially, but the film and the music enjoyed some measure of
cult success among college students. I have heard that it is a raw, but
interesting film. There are small communities of Goan christians scattered
across the coastal districts of Karnataka (and as I remember from my childhood,
to the last person, passionate supporters of liberation from Portugal).
The film had made a favorable impression on them. Unfortunately, have not
been able to get ahold of a video or audio tape.
The song, by Rafi, is perhaps toward the end of the film ends. It has the
atmosphere of a funereal march, somewhat like the second part of the Shaheed
song "watan ki raah mein watan ke naujawaa.n shaheed ho."
The song
maayoos na ho aye mere watan
aa.Nsoo se na dho ye laal kafan
miT kar bhi nahi.n miT paataa hai

Film: Tu Hi Meri Zindagi
Singer: Rafi
Music: Rono Mukherji
Lyrics: Also Rono Mukherji ?
Cast: Deb Mukherji, Nivedita
Year: Mid-60s
I like the song, but too esoteric. The title song of the film (I think
it's a Rafi and chorus affair) is also nice. One of the popular songs was
a Rafi-Asha duet, "jidhar bhi main dekhu.n, udhar tu hi tu hai," which is
the "maria, maria" song. In addition, the film has a pair of lovely
Asha solos: "mere watan ka hai tu, wo ratan" and "ye kaun chhakke (?) so
raha, hai gulmohar ki chhao.n mein." The last one is a particular favorite
of mine and if I had access to a recording, it would have shown up on the
quiz!

'Sukraat', also known as Socrates was a Greek(?) philosopher who was forced
to drink poison by the authorities for his heretic (as they called it)
thoughts. BTW who is 'mansoor'.
Ashok,
You have a knack of pulling out really obscure songs. Are these ,
especially this song(s) really good as you say or you like them just
because of their charm of obscurity. I would like to listen to these
songs, but i wont like to be tied with the cassettes which are never played
again. So I would like to have sincere opinion from you or anybody else
who has listened to them.
Thanks,
Sanjay
: Don't know about this Rono Mukherji.
: But I have a question : I have heard about a female singer called Rano
: Mukherji, who is ( I think ) Hemant Kumar's daughter. Is it true ?
I have heard the same thing too. That Ranoo M was the daughter. I also
heard that she starred as Balraj and Leela's daughter in the Pt.
Ravishankar MD'ed movie (forget the name.....:( )
: AFAIR, she sang a song in Amitabh-starrer "Indrajeet". The song was :
: "Reshami zulpheN nashili aankheN hoNth gulabi gore gaal...."
Does anybody know who sang the starting lines in this song. The lyrics
were same and a male (RDB like voice) was singing it. I think I liked that
song for that reason alone. The picturisation held interest only in the AB
part.
I don;t even know whether the female voice was Ranoo's or not, btw.
Later,
Ikram.
: Any more songs from this singer ?
: Thanks,
: Kuntal.

>There was a song from the earlier "Masoom" -
> Naani teri morni ko mor le gaye
> baaki jo bacha tha kale chor le gaye
>I'm pretty sure this was sung by Rano Mukherji.
>Yeah, even I think that she's Hemant Kumar's daughter.

Yes, she is Rano Mukherjee, daughter of Hemant Kumar. and I think that the
song mentioned here "nani teri morni ko....." was from film "Ferry" and MD
was late Hemant Kumar.

I seem to remember she sang one song - no details of movie etc.
Muskurayiye zara ji muskurayiye
Aap ki shararaten gul khila chuki
Aur koi gul khilayiye...Muskurayiye (except she said muskurahiye)
Nishi
Bharat: "nani teri morni ko mor ..." is definitely NOT md'ed by Hemant K
but by none other than Salil C. I similar Hemant song was: daadi amma ...
maan jaao ..

I thought it was Annette (of 'Mauam mastaana' in Satte pe
Satta or 'ChhoDo sanam' in Kudrat fame) who sang it... ???

Isn't it from 'do dooni chaar', the Kishore Kumar-Asit Sen
version of 'Comedy of Errors'? (ASIDE: Gulzar was an asstt to Asit Sen
those days and was credited as asstt director for this film. But
apparently he loved the story so much that he later remade it with
Sanjeev Kumar and Deven Verma as 'Angoor')...

No Pradeep, No Bharat, Yes Latha.
1. "naani teri morni ko mor le gaye" *is* from the older 'Maasoom,' MD Hemant.
2. Hemant has never produced anything as ugly as "daadi amma daadi maan jaao."
That song is the Filmfare-award-winning effort of his one-time assistant
Ravi from the film 'Gharana' sung by I think Asha and Kamal Barot (Shakeel's
words).
3. The only time Salil Chowdury has used Ranu Mukherjee that I know of is in
the long and meandering dream-song in 'Kabuliwala' : "kabuliwala aayaa"
written by Prem Dhawan and sung by Hemant, Usha Mangeshkar, Sabita Bannerjee
and Ranu Mukherjee.
One song I have heard from Ranu Mukherjee as a grown up is a rare attempt at
a cabaret song by Jaidev. It is from the newer Faasla (lyrics Kaifi Azmi):
aa uThaa le apnaa jaam kyaa tujhe kisi se kaam
is chhalakate jaam mein dubo de apnaa subah-o-shaam
The same film had Bhupinder singing the cigarette song!
