This posting is on behalf of Sandeep Joshi. He has raised a very
interesting question. Waiting for some interesting information from
netters.

The Swedish guy must have been whistling the tune of the popular
American folk song "Clementine". It goes like:
In a cavern, by the canyon, excavating for a mine
Dwelt a miner, forty-niner, and his daugher Clementine
The refrain (after each stanza) goes:
Oh my darling! Oh my darling! Oh my darling! Clementine
Thou art lost and gone for ever, dreadful sorry Clementine
The tune is a catchy, happy one, but the poem, if I remember
correctly, describes a sad story (set in the California gold rush
period). The last stanza, (where the girl drowns in the river) starts:
Rosy lips above the water, blowing bubbles mighty fine...
This song predates "ai dil hai mushkil", but all the stanzas in
"Clementine" are sung to the same tune, so the antaras in the C.I.D
song seem to be innovations.
As regards the Japanese dude, maybe we should not rule out the
possibility that he might be an OPN fan.

: Hello Netters,
: I have a question regarding the Rafi
: song "ae dil hain mushkil jeena yahaan"
: The other day, one of my office colleagues from Sweden
: was whistling this tune which was very similar to
: the Hindi song. I tried to get some info from him in a bid
: to figure out which was the original. He, however, knew very little
: about the tune he was whistling.
===> Clamentine ? That is the tune I have always associated this song with.

I would like to know who MDed the KK song, Pyaar bantthe chalo.....
which was another lift-off from Ron Goodwin Orchestra, as was
the title song of Mohabbat isko kehte hain.

You are right about the "stomach aching" tune - it's the same as
Clementine. Some stanzas I can recall are:
Eating peanuts, eating peanuts, eating peanuts...just now
Stomach aching, stomach aching, stomach aching...just now
Call the doctor, call the doctor, call the doctor...just now
...
Dont know if this one has a happy or sad ending. :-)
Couldn't you grasp the profound meaning there, he seems to hint
that even thogh Mumbai did so much for him he fell for a chennaite
and he is just reflecting the whole sequence in his mind :-)

anything more.

If other RMIMers contribute to the nursery rhyme maybe atleast our quest
will have a happy ending.
