I invite suggestions from all of you for the kind of Indian dance tunes you like
to hear/see. No restrictions on era/selection, except they must have a *strong*
rhythm without change in tempo. I'd assume that Kishore Kumar has the largest
number in this category. I have a pretty extensive list, but would definitely
not mind being pleasantly surprised by a few numbers that live on the outermost
fringes of my cob-webbed consciousness. Try to include the movie/actors if
possible. Finally, all tempos are welcome, from staccato fast to slow-dance songs.

All-time top 5 numbers:

1) Pag ghungroo baandh, meera naachi thi.
2) Khaike paan banaraswaala.
3) Ye samaa, samaa hai ye pyaar ka.
4) Dum maaro dum, mit jaayen hum.
5) General medleys involving a Punjabi-Keherva beat.

Let it all hang out.

Not necessarily. I guess u forgot all those Rafi songs for Shammi Kapoor
such as "Aaaja aaja, main hun pyaar tera...." "Ayyayya karun main kya
suku suku...." "Aajkal tere mere pyaar ke charche har zubaan par.." etc.

I wonder why we haven't seen seen any follow-ups to this nice thread. I guess
everyone is busy with his/her exams. Anyway, here's my addition to the list:

I was surprised to see this in the list; maybe its a slow dance.......

One of my all time favourites and one can't keep himself from dancing
is a Bhngra from Kashmir ki kali (I guess), Shammi and Sharmila (I think
her first film):

Yeh mere haat me tera haat to phir kya baat
meri jaan bale-bale.

Another Bhangra:

Oh Bale-bale O reshmi dupatte waliye
Tera roop lashkare mare, O reshmi dupatte waliye!

or

Dekho-Dekho yeh hai Jalwa! (Remo)

How can one forget when Ms. Jumma makes BigB sing and dance for a Chumma??

The other which come to mind are:

eena meena dika, ay daay dama dika
ilu ilu
ae jee o jee, lo jee suno jee
sama hai suhana suhan, nashe meiN jahaN hai (slow seductive number)
de de pyar de
ek do teen four five six
tirchi topi waale
raat bhar jaam se jaam takraayga

You probably are looking songs for some party etc., but if just looking
for dance nos. then all HOLI songs are pretty good for dance, though one
only enjoys during HOLI.
And some mujras are pretty good -- like in sahab biwi aur ghulam
' saakiya aaj mujhe neend nahi aayengi ...'
