It could be the Lata solo, `Jalta hai badan'. The song *does* start with the
same opening lines, but the first line of the song where it offically starts is
`Ishq se keh do kaheen se le aaye saawan, pyaas bhadki hai sareshaam (?) se
jalta hai badan'.
The other song in this movie is `Ae dil-e-nadaan', which to my knowledge, is
picturized on Hema singing it alone, without any companions, comfy or
not-comfy. :)
Hope this helps.
Renu.
could it be "jalta hai badan" ?

Yup, a beautiful one!
The song is "khwaab ban kar koyi aayega, tho neend aayegi".
Unfortunately, I don't remember the lyrics. If some one has the
audio cassette, please let me know if I can get a copy.

There's a wonderful solo in that same movie (I think). It goes:
aayi zanjeer ki jhankaar,
khuda khair karein,
dil hua kiska giraftaar,
khuda khair karein...
I must've heard this song just twice in my entire life (which is not so
long in the first place, but I digress) but it has never failed to move
me. The lyrics are simple and I have never seen the picturisation, but
the voice has a raw power of its own. To my mind, the voice carries all
the harshness of the desert and a primal bass in it. I don't know who the
singer is and would love to know who it is. The music (Khaiyyam?) is not
terribly ornate and subsmues itself to the singer whenever he sings. And
what I love about the song is the pace. There is no hurriedness about it.
Oftentimes, consecutive lines are sung with quite a big interlude in
between. I think that's amazing, the idea that you don't have to be
lock-in-step with the beat, but just sing when the moment seizes you. Nah,
maybe that's wrong, he _must_ be singing with the beat, but... oh heck,
just hear it if you get the chance.

** I can't recall the first name... but I think it might be some Kapoor.
He rarely sings nowadays. His son Rohan Kapoor also acted in some films
circa '86 '87. And oh yes... good song.

Kabban Mirza, belongs to a famous Royal Musicians family from
Bhopal, or somewhere in M.P.. He has only sung one song for movies and that
too on the personal request of the famous producer/director of Razia Sultan,
Pakeeza and Love & God, can you name him? yup you got it he was
Kamal Amrohi. Indeed a great film maker, who put all his money into Razia
Sultan and sunk without a trace after this movie bombed badly. In my opinion
choosing Hema as a Razia Sultan was a really bad choice. She couldn't speak
the chaste Urdu/Farsi/Turkish required for the movie, while Dharmendra,
Pradip Kumar, Sohrab Modi and Vijeyenra acted well and were well versd
in their dialogues, it could have been a milestone in historical cineman, but

The lyricist for this song is Jan Nisar Akhtar. Very nice song. The
movie was directed by Kamal Amrohi, as Sandeep pointed out, and was
produced by A.K. Mishra. And btw, JNA is also the lyricist for the
other song that was discussed - khwaab banke koi ayega to neend ayegi.

You missed out one lyricist of the movie - Kaif Bhopali.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Nope. The movie was produced by AK Mishra. The losses suffered by the
Mishra family due to Kamal Amrohi would take megabytes to document -
so I'll leave that out...
