DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE. I went with some friends to see it, and some of us
walked out of the movie 3/4 of the way through it. I wanted to leave as soon
as it resumed after intermission.

Madhuri and Sharook (sp?) Khan star in this decrepit piece of trash. She is
an Air India air hostess - beautiful, strong, and intelligent, as the usual
female stereotypical portrayals go. He is a spoiled, rich, self-serving jerk who
develops an obsession with her. Madhuri marries someone else, his obsession
escalates without bound, and the rest is a demented tragedy that was created
solely to milk money from the ignorant, uneducated majority in India.

The movie is beyond description; calling it demented and appalling doesn't
do justice to how passionately I feel about the movie.

I know that when you go to see an Indian movie, you're supposed to leave
your mind at home. I know that they have tepid plots and are sloppy, Easternized
versions of Western films. I know that they are popular in India because
the glorified tragedy, violence, and irony appeals to the uneducated masses.
What I don't understand is why people enjoy watching these films when they tear
apart the basic institutions in life: marriage, family, justice, and even
humanity itself. The murder of Madhuri's husband is only the start
of Madhuri's dehumanizing tragedies. Just when you believe that things can't
get worse, they do (this is why I stayed to watch the movie as long as I did).
She is framed for attempting to murder the obsessive psychopath, jailed, beaten,
nearly raped, beaten again, and nearly raped and killed once again.
Her second beating takes place to kill her unborn child. Apparently,
the producer and director thought that the audience would enjoy a a graphic
miscarraige scene. For a large part of the rest of the film, she is shown in a
white prisoner's Indian dress that is heavily stained with blood, which poured
out from between her legs during her miscarriage.

Eventually, of course, there comes the archetypical empowerment of the heroine.
She gains passion and strength to avenge everyone who wronged her.
The rest, with its non sequitur symbolism, is just what you see at the
end of every other Hindi film.

I'm sorry for describing the story and for doing such a terrible job at
reviewing the film. I simply don't understand how this 3-hour trash piece
could hold any entertainment value. Before seeing the film, I did leave my
mind at home. I even enjoyed the slapstick humor early on. However, the same
humor just wasn't funny when it was shown to lighten the mood after the rape
and beating scenes. The most disturbing part was that my friends and I felt
like we were the only ones who WEREN'T enjoying the film.

However, the choice to see it is yours.

I recently read that Sharukh Khan made it to IIT and then DROPPED OUT !! he
then went on to do commerce/mba etc., i believe.

I have also heard that Nagarjuna, the Telugu actor who also acted in Hindi
films like Khuda Gawah and Shiva is a mechanical engineer by qualification.
Different versions have him graduating from IIT-Madras/MIT (Boston) !!

can anybody comment on the truthfulness of these statements? On a related
issue, are there any film stars (male and female) who have an
engineering/science background?

by and large film stars are considered dumb, with at the most
education till XIIth std.. i would like to know if this generalisation is true
or a myth.

thanks

Yesterday I had a chance to see Anjaam on the big screen. On
the whole I should rate the movie as average, but it is the
graphic nature of the violent scenes that makes this otherwise
interesting movie into an average one. Shahrukh continues
his evil ways and is infatuated with Madhuri Dixit. I do not
want to reveal the story so I will not say anything more.
Some of the songs are quite good (mus: Anand Milind). Shahrukh
and Madhuri Dixit give good performances.

I think the most horrible scene in the movie was the one where
Madhuri tears off flesh from Tinnu Anand's arm using her teeth
(sic). Also Madhuri has supposedly done one of the songs in
one take. I assume it was the one sung at the marriage party.

next movies on the big screen Saajan Ka Ghar (Rishi, Juhi
and Deepak Tijohri) and Yeh Dillagi (Saif Ali Khan, Kajol etc,
Dir: Yash Chopra)

Nagarjuna did his BS from somewhere around Detroit. I am not
sure if he completed his course. Venkatesh also did his BS
in and around Det.

Yes, i saw it on big screen. the director should be awarded phd in prolonged
hammering. madhuri is as usual cute. thats the only reason you want to
see this movie. shah rukh is his old self, chasing married women. psycho, paranoid,
stupid and bs all rolled into one.

basically, if you can live without madhuri for one movie, don't watch it.

I donno about Hindi actors but most of the Telugu actors are educated.

1. Dr. N T RamaRao (popularly known as NTR) did B.A. 40 years back,
it was supposed to be a great achievement in those days.

2. There was a hero by name Balayya who did his B.E.(Mechanical Engineering).
He is now a producer.

Coming to the new generation.

3. Nagarjuna is an Engineer.

4. Rajendra Prasad (Comedy Hero) is an Engineer.

5. Rajasekhar is a Doctor.

6. Venkatesh is an M.B.A (U.S.A)

All the above four guys are in the top 5 heroes category of telugu
film industry.

7. Ram Gopal Verma (Director of SHIVA and RAAT) is an Engineer.

Hi
I think Nagarjuna and Venkatesh both have MBA degrees from the USA
Does anybody know which universities they are alumni of?

1. To continue the thread, methinks director Manirathnam too holds a
professional degree.

2. Doesn't Hindi film-maker Shekhar Kapoor too have
a bachelors degree?

3. Has Meenakshi Seshadri finally completed her M.A. (she has been
trying to complete it almost ever since she entered the industry, or
was it her B.A. then ?)

Yes nAgArjuna is an engineering graduate though I dont know
whether he was a mechanical engineer. He graduated from
University of Monterey, California. Another telugu actor
venkatEsh (who acted in the Hindi film Anari) was also a
graduate from the same college and was nAgArjunA's rommmate.

I also heard that the telugu actor rAjaSEkhar is a medical doctor
who practiced for sometime in Guntur. The comedy actor
rAjendra prasAd is supposedly a mechanical engineer from some
college in vijayawADa

I think it was true in the previous generation. The new
actors/actresses tend to be better educated. I remember good
ol NTR's name always being put with a B.A. tagged along

Sriram Lagoo is an ENT specialist. His medical license (to practise) was revoked
sometime in the 80's (no idea why). Dr. Mohan Agashe, Dr. Jabbar Patel (who is
a practising gynaecologist, i believe) are also "medical" doctors in the acting profession.

Sharukh from a very reliable source was tops at everything. Not only was he
the most outstanding student out of school but he also topped his BA in
economics.
