I saw the recently released movie "Sahibaan" with Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor,
Madhuri Dixit and Sonu Walia. I wouldn't recommend the movie to anyone.
Gopi (Rishi) is a shephard (actually a goatherd, if there is such a word).
Sahibaan(Madhuri) is a girl spoilt by her father. Gopi scolds her a couple
of times and lo, she transforms into a responsible girl and they fall in love.
Kunwar Jaypal Singh (Sanjay) and Rajkumari(Sonu) make it a rectangle.
Rishi is quite fat and doesn't suit the role. All Madhuri has to do is dance
around. The direction is pretty jerky, i mean the movie doesn't flow smoothly.
The only saving grace of the film was Sanjay Dutt's character and his dialogues.
His role is a shade of grey, sometimes good and other times bad, which makes him
somewhat unpredictable in this predictable movie. Personally, I find it
very difficult to identify with any character in a completely rural setting.
The songs are not worthy except perhaps the title song which is OK.
That's all.

May be you need to listen to the songs again. Like most people I find
them really good as compared to the other songs releasd these days.
"Kaisse jiyoungi mein agar tu na bani " is more than just OK.
"chor unglee pakar mere haanth sajna" is another entertaining one.
Plus "mein bottle? nahin sharab ki " is good as well

Thanks for telling us all this! I was actually planning to see this movie at
the weekend..looks like I wont be now! Surprising isnt it? how crap a movie can
get the more publicity it gets..I remember this movie being publicised way
back in summer 1992 and the release date was december 1992...but like Roop
\Ki Rani it got delayed...and in the process the more publicity it got the less
people thought about this movie.

Rishi is getting rather annoying these days...OK he does churn out the odd
good watchable movie nowadays but I think his days as a 'hero' are numbered.

Well you name me one 'new' film whose direction ISN'T jerky!
>The only saving grace of the film was Sanjay Dutt's character and his dialogues
Not surprising...Sanjay seems to be one of the better actors in the industry
today...(along with ANil Kapoor ;:-) ).

Hello Hello Amit sahab,
I would suggest you to include a warning message before writing the story of a
new movie.

Surprised that Sanjay Dutt is being praised on this newsgroup. Last time
when I wrote something in his favour, I was flamed from all directions....

I thought that his dialogue delivery was terrible! In my opinion the whole
casting was terrible. RKapoor was not convincing as innocent young goatherd.
He is best as a rich_kid_who_falls_for_an_ord_girl (Chandani, BolRadhaBoletc)
SDutt does not have good Urdu diction to do justice to his lines (which, btw,
I thought were very good indeed). The intensity and nuances were missing
or were out of sync. MDixit appears to be the same in any role. Do you
see any difference to her role here compared to _Saajan_ or _ZindagiEkJua_?
I don't. May be I was biased cos I watched _Aaina_ and _Sahibaan_ one
after the other and casting in the former was excellent. ASingh, JShroff
and JChawla either perfectly suited for their roles or they did a good
job fitting into their roles:-)
Also, music and songs in both films were good. It also made me realise
that YChopra was asking ShivHari (MD for both films) to give those repetitive
tunes in all his films (Silsila, Chandani, Lamhe, Aaina etc.).

AKapoor is much more versatile. He can be convincing as rich guy, poor guy,
village bumpkin etc.
SDutt has limited range. His best, I feel, was Naam, Vidhaata,
Hathyaar, latest FerozKhan film (?) etc. and to some extent Sadak,
and a couple of others I don't remember the names.
I also thought that he was also funny in _Thanedaar_ (an otherwise
forgettable film).
I better stop, thank you for listening. :-)

I agree with you. Although overall I liked Aaina better then Sahibaan.

BUt I think Anil Kapoor acts same in all movies now whether he is rich
or poor. I think he has lost it now.

In my opinion, Mahesh Bhatt's "Kabza" (SP?? starring Raj Babbar, Sunjuy Dutt,
Paresh Rawal) matured "Sunjuy Dutt" as an actor. I really enjoyed the movie
and was impressed by his performance and then "Hathyaar". I think right
now his movie selection has been good and he is a much better actor then
when he first played in VIdhata.

:-) Well I have always been a Sanjay Dutt fan. More so since he did 'SADAK'.
Sunjay Dutt has done decent acting in only ONE movie...SAJAAN!!
I'd rather see AK in all the action movies. Though, after RKRCKR,
I would much rather see Ajay Devagan.
But it would be REALLY Great if we could have our old AMIT back!!
