I wonder why Bhupinder is no longer singing in Hindi films. He is terrific
ghazal gayak, isn't it. And he has got a long way to go. But then few
directors want to put ghazals in there fims. But it is high time somebody
should use the talents of Bhupinder.
Also it wud be nice to see Kalyanji Anandji and Manna Dey back. OP Nayyar
has switched over to Homeopathy and his last attempt for a comeback was not
successful too though Tushar Bhatia has made some interesting songs in
'Andaz Apna Apna' in Nayaari style. One more guy who has gone to ovlivion
is Khayyam and his comeback may bring Bhupinder back too!! And bye the way
is 'Ravi' alive??? I don't remember the song but there one song featuring
Jackie Shroff and some actress on a bike. It was lovely.
Hoping for the comeback of at least one of the above, I remain.
Sukla
The Ravi song was from "Dahleez", featuring Meenakshi Sheshadri & Sunny
Deol beside Jackie. The song was "jhuumti baharon ka samaa". I thought
two Mahendra Kapoor numbers were OK in that film : "bewafa jaa tera vaada
dekha" was one of them. I can't immediately recall the other. Vijay

Is Khayyam alive? IIRC he passed away sometime after Umrao Jaan. Please tell me
I am wrong. He was one of the greats. I loved the kind of music music he made.

If you are talking about Ravi Shankar the legndary virtuoso sitar player,
yes he is alive and doing very well.
I am a director of The Ravi Shankar Foundation, which has
recently been formed by Ravi Shankar and his wife Sukanya Shankar. Goals
of The Ravi Shankar Foundation are to:
* Collect, document and archive the works of Ravi Shankar and other
masters of Indian music, perfoming arts, and literature.
* Provide a place of study where senior studdents can live and learn
under the guidance of the Guru.
* The Foundation will serve a resource center for researching classical
Indian music and arts. The Foundation will be a place where cultural
leaders, scholars, scientist and creative artisit can come together,
exchange ideas, collaborate and experiment.
* An educational arm of the Foundation will include a scholarship
program and an outreach program to encourage students to explore world
music and performing arts.
Ravi Shankar has asked me to let everyone know he is healthy and doing
just fine. He has NOT been in the hospital, in fact he has been very
active performing concerts here in the US, Europe, Japan and other parts
of the world. He sends his regards and thanks everyone for their good
wishes.
