Surinder-ji,

On any other day, the very last line of your post would be a wildly
funny example of copy/paste, without even reading the content of the
source (usually, IMDB).

But today, it is a sad reminder of the loss of Feroz Khan.

Not much of a prolific actor, or a mover-and-shaker in the industry or
among the acting ‘greats’.

And unless I am mistaken, his very last film role was quite odd –
playing ‘Amitabh Bachchan’ in Slumdog Millionaire, if the ‘Feroze
Khan’ in the end credits was indeed him.

But what he was though, was a ruggedly individualistic force who
marched to his own tune and made his films in his own way.

A drop-dead handsome hunk of a man, a tall, strapping ‘mard ka tukda’,
a refreshing contrast in raw masculinity compared to the usual namby-
pambies in the business, possessed of a soothing, silvery voice, the
charmer, the ones the girls were always crazy about, and in an odd
contrast, a man who was soft-soften, vulnerable and many a time lost
out to the lead actor (and in the case of Upaasna, to his own brother)

As a producer, ‘F.K. International Films’ always brought on an
adrenalin rush, knowing that no expense would be spared in terms of
its music or its top-flight actors, shot locales - from the racetracks
of Stuttgart, to the (now no more) Buddhas of Bamiyan.

His purpose was to thrill the audience, (at times simply with sex,
violence and terrific songs), make some money for himself and leave a
mark. In all this, he succeeded. His smash-hit Qurbani still finds few
takers in terms of big, broad-shouldered thriller films. (let’s leave
Sholay out of this for this one day).

Also, one of the very few actors who looked credible on a horse, an
animal he loved passionately.

In the end, he will always be remembered in Hindi films as a symbol of
panache, sophistication, verve, and confidence.

Or in one single phrase - an icon of style.....

One by one, the signposts of our own Hindi film-viewing days are
inexorably falling away. So here, in tribute to Feroz Khan are a
recall of some of the unforgettable songs we have on him –

Selecting five different singers, we have five songs which have stood
the test of many decades:

1 Oonche Log – Rafi – jaag dil-e-deewana, what I consider to be his
signature song.
2 Dharmatma – Kishore - tere chehre mein woh jadoo hai
3 Safar – Mukesh – jo tumko ho pasand
4 Oonche Log – Mahendra Kapoor – haaye re tere chanchal nainwaa
5 Janbaaz – Manhar – har kisi ko nahin miltaa

There are many other wonderful songs for him from music directors like
Usha Khanna (Ek Sapara Ek Lutera and others), more Chitragupta, R.D.
Burman and Kalyanji-Anandji, who made Mukesh into what is believed to
be the actor’s personal favorite playback.

And Kishore Kumar! Who can ever forget ‘hamaare siva’ or ‘tum ho
haseen’ or ‘tum miley pyaar se’ or the song from Kabila, among
others.

A large hearted man, he placed some of the very best songs of his
films on his co-stars. Some of which are:

Dayavan – aa phir tum pe, Pankaj Udhas for Vinod Khanna
Yalgaar – sheher mein, gaaon mein, Kumar Sanu for Sanjay Dutt?
Qurbani – kya dekhte ho, Rafi for Vinod Khanna

And above all, one of the most sizzling songs ever made for the Hindi
film screen:

Tere saath hai kitna pyara, for Anil Kapoor in Janbaaz.

In the end, it is sad to think that a man who looked to be in booming
good health only two years ago in ‘Welcome’ lost the battle to cancer
so fast.

Anyway, he is now with his Maker and may his soul rest in peace.

Feroz Khan Sahib – you were one of a kind! Thanks for the songs and
the memories.

hi
here is--Even in death, the flamboyant, effervescent Feroz Khan
looked every bit the Jaanbaaz he played on screen decades ago.
“There’s so much peace on his face,” whispered veteran actress
Mumtaaz, seen mourning his death with Khan’s ex-wife Sundari
Daughter Laila Khan, dressed in black, was inconsolable as Feroz’s
body was brought out to the protected enclosure where his family, well-
wishers and members of the Shia community (his sect) had congregated.
A much composed but grief-stricken Fardeen Khan came out with wife
Natasha. Flanked by his wife and sisterFardeen stood like the rock of
Gibraltar, strong despite being shattered, shedding a tear and
consoling the two women. He thanked everyone who came to pray for his
father individually.

In 1965, he married Sundari, a designer and part of the Page Three
circuit in Mumbai.[10] They had two children together, Laila and
Fardeen Khan (b. 1974). In 1985, after 20 years of marriage, he
divorced his wife.
