most of the time. So if it is an actor, at least you can ask somebody if
you have a photo. With a singer, MD, lyricist etc., only the person
concerned or their contemporary people or magazines of that era or a
well-researched biography, etc. can help you.

I thought she was from Bombay but roots in UP .

Meena Kumari's father was a Punjabi from Bhera, a small town
near Sargodha. Her mother was Bengali.
