In 1973 instead of LP for BOBBY , S.D. Burman won for ABHIMAAN
Instead of R.D. Burman for AMAR PREM either Kalyanji Anandji for KORA KAGAZ
in 1974 or Rajesh Roshan for JULIE won in 1975.
I also found it surprising that Shiv Hari who have composed excellent
music for most of Yash Chopra's films such as SILSILA, CHANDNI and LAMHE
never won an award for best music director.

Here's another post from the Burman headquarters :-) Ketan can't post
directly on RMIM and I'm therefore steering his article on the net.
I would officially like to invite Ketan to the Shanky-J bashing club! :-)
But, he will first have to withdraw his nomination of Sangam for the
filmfare award :-)
Sami Mohammed (A Naushad fan)...... Shanky-J murdabad!! :-)
============================================================================
Spluttering with rage is a mild way of putting it, after taking a look at the
Filmfare award winners for Best MD. I mean, what idiot was pulling the
envelopes out of the hat, when they were choosing movies, like "Dil Apna...",
Pehchan, Gharana, Dosti, Khandaan, Milan, Brahmachari, Be-Imaan, Jeene Ki Raah,
Satyam Shivam, even Sanam Teri Kasam. Giving credit where it is due, IMHO,
Silsila, deserved it over Sanam teri Kasam.
My choices would be:
Dil Apna-- No way, Mughal-e-Azam --WAY.
Professor--Yikes, Hum Dono for sure
Dosti--Bad Choice, Bandini --definitely
Khandaan-- No. Sangam-- Yes(Sorry Sami)
SURAJ--Are profanities allowed?? GUIDE the judges to an asylum.
Milan--HAH! How about Teesri Manzil?
Jeene Ki raah--You gotta be kidding. Jewel Thief surely.
Pehchan?--Aradhana, Khamoshi whichever but not Pehchan.
Mera Naam Joker--not with Kati Patang around.
Be-Imaan--Not with Anand and Amar Prem around.
Abhimaan--Sure, :) But also Jawani Diwani, Sharmilee, :)
Kora Kagaz--Nopes!! Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Aap Ki Kasam, Yaadon Ki Baraat
For 1986-- Saagar. 1987-- Maybe Chandni.
Biggest disappointment has been that SD and RD did not get more awards ,
that bozos, make that *&^(^(*&*& bozos, SJ, and LP got more awards for
some lousy musicals, and that people like Madan Mohan , C. Ramchandra,
Jaidev, V.Desai, Kishore Kumar did not get any.

Well, the BIG MD's that you mention that did'nt get awards,
I would say, they were so great that they did not need an award
from some magazine. Their works spoke for them...I mean speak for
them, this is true for Sachinda and Rahulda as well!!1

Music for Abhimaan was much much better than Bobby's. Amar Prem had
one very good song - 'Chingari koi ...' and the best thing about the song
was its lyrics not the music. The music was also good, but Kora Kagaz and
Julie had pretty good musical scores too. Tough competition. Lucky one got
through. As for Aradhana, it certainly deserved an award, but I don't know
how good were the songs of 'Jeene Ki Raah'.
I like Shiv-Hari's music too. Especially Silsila's music. A good
combination of Shiv's Santoor and Hari's Bansuri. Chandani also had a
pretty good composition. Can someone provide more info on which movies did
Shiv-Hari give music to?
Sunil
I always thought Mughal-e-Azam competed with Madhumati (i.e., they
were released the same year). If so, granted that it was a tough
competition, IMO Madhumati deserved to win.
Net-gurus please confirm the year-of-release of M-e-A.

Since we all agree to one point in common, that FILMFARE awards were given by a
bunch of people who did not understand music, why do we not come up with an
alternate RMIM music awards. The only criteria being that we can hand them to
multiple movies for the same year (this would prevent endless discussion about whether
one movie's music is better then other). We also have the latitude to hand over awards
to movies before 1953. We can begin by striking out such wrong and unfair choices as
Suraj (granted that it had the very popular 'Baharo phool barsawo...' but how can one
song make it win over GUIDE..??? ). We can keep the original FILMFARE list as a
reference. After all it had some right choices such as Baiju Bawra, etc in it.

I think Shiv-Hari has given music to Lamhe for sure. The music of
Aaina and Darr is probably also by them but I am not quite sure.
All the mivies are by Yash Chopra.

Agreed that SD and RD were in a different league of originality and
inventiveness and such rare musical talent, that even if they didn't get any
awards, their compostions were truly revolutionary and memorable.
I suppose it could have been worse in the 80's by giving a lot of awards
that fat slob and number 1 thief Bappi (the man with no shame) Lahiri. If I
am correct then he got an award for Sharabi, in which ***De de pyar de
Pyar de** was probably the best song but was a blatant copy of ***Allah Megh
de Pani de*** from SD's masterpiece Guide.
Mihir Desai.
As far as I know S-H have scored for
SILSILA
FAASLE
CHANDNI
LAMHE
DARR

music of AAINA was scored by Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen, who also composed
for YEH DILLAGI.
YD and AAINA, while undoubtedly produced by Yash Chopra, were not
directed by him

I think the list can go like this:
- Silsila
- Fasle
- Vijay
- Chandani
- Lamhe
- Aaina
- Parampara
- Yeh Dillagi
Any additions - especially non Yash Chopra movies for which this MD pair
has given music?
Shyam

don't know if Shiv-Hari scored for VIJAY

> - Lamhe

nope-- Dilip and Sameer Sen should be credited here

nuh-uh. The Sens scored for YD
