It started with a thumri, or what you call it?
Jhoola kinne dala amraeeyaa.n
Ambuaa ke pirwaa pe jhoolaa jhoole.n
I missed to note it. Could somebody please post the lyrics.

Then Bharat Bhushan teaches baby rekha singing in the course of this
song. corrections please.
pehle ghanshyaam
phir brahma vishnu mahesha
ab mori naeeyaa paar karo tum
khwaja nijamuddin aulia
sur nar ...
ab piya aaye more mandirwa
biraj mein dhoom machayo kanha
saj kar jaaoo.n apne gaan.nv
choodiyaa.n khanak gaee.n sari anadi
pakdat baeyaa.n mori banwari

I found Asha's "aaaaaaa" aalap in the middle of several ghazals quite
irritating.
in aankho.n ki masti ke "aaaaaaa"
ik tum hi nahin tanha "aaaaaaa"
is shamm-e-faroza ko "aaaaa"
tujhko ruswaa na kiya "aaaaaa"
-----------
also, the scale was not kept in mind leading to unnecessary stretching
of "Aaaazal se intezaar hain" and "oooooodaas bekaraar hai"
--------
then there was beautiful singing of
aah ko chaahiye ik umr asar hone tak
kaun jeeta hai teri zulf ke sar hone tak
aashiqi sabr talab aur tamanna betaab
dil ka kya ra.ng karoo.n khoon-e.jigar hone tak
-------------
I could not make out the traditional song that was going on at the
birthday of the son of that friend of Rekha who was married to Farookh
Sheikh.
---------
I could also not make out the religious song at the maqbara towards the
end
-alwida ae saahib-e ..... alwida
-----------
Khayyam's music is so soothing. wonder why he stopped composing.
--------------
I understand all songs were by shaharyaar. Nice poetry, still a thoughts
lingers that why they did not find any single song of umrao jaan herself
to be included in the film.
There were several sher mentioned. Could any be of Umrao Jaan "Adaa":
- Dil ke aane ke dha.ng nirale hain
- Kis kis tarah se mujhko na ruswaa kiya gaya
gairo.n ka naam mere lahoo se likha gaya
- Naazuki unke lab ki kya kahiye
pa.nkhudi ek gulab ki si hai - "Meer"
- Kyon aaj uska zikr mujhe khush na kar saka
kyon aaj uska naam mera dil dukha gaya
- ab aap saamne hain to kuchh bhi nahin hai yaad
varna hamein kuchh aapse kehna zaroor tha
- Main huu.n, tera visaal, aur kuchh nahin, tanhaae ????
- tu mujhe chaahe, na chaahe, ye tere bas mein to hai.
aur main tujhe na chaahoo.n, ye mere bas mein nahin
- haaey mujhe rota suna usne aur itna bhi na kaha
ke hai ye shor sa kaisa pas-e-deewaar rone ka

Scale wasn't kept in mind?!?! You must be kidding, Rawat. All four of
those Asha-ghazals are immaculate compositions, from orchestration to
lyrics to aalaaps to Rekha's on-screen delivery. You are, of course,
entitled to your opinion, even if it is wrong.

Well an opinion couldn't be right or wrong. It's just an opinion.
I thought about responding to Rawat's objections to the alaaps in "in
aankho.n ki masti ke" then let it go on the premise that it is his opinion.
In the same vein, IMO the song is enhanced several notches just because of
that alaap. I just love the way Asha does it.
I consider the music/lyrics/singing in this movie to be amongst the best
that there is. But thats just MO.

And what you have written is....? The way I look at it, your statements are no
different than Rawat's. Just opinions. Is there any concrete evidence you have
to prove that you are right and Rawat is wrong, or are you just blowing for the
heck of it? So why should we think you are not wrong and maybe Rawat is right.
Ketan
about scale sounding different.
These are the lines.
Ye kya jagah hai dosto.n ye kaun sa dayaar hai
had-e-nigaah tak jaha.n gubaar hi gubaar hai
mere liye bhi kya koi oodaas bekaraar hai
(she sings udaas with a long o which is definitly not how udaas is
pronounced)
ik aisi shay ka koy.n mujhe a a azal se intezaar hai
(she sings azal with a extended a , not capital a, which is definitly
not how azal is pronounced)
in both the cases, this extended pronunciation is brought only to match
the scale and singing it with normal pronunciation of udaas and azal
does skip a few notes.
i never meant to say that the film was less than perfect. Just pointing
out something that came to my notice. Of course it was my personal
opinion.
