Mrs. Vijayshree Subramaniam, wife of Dr. L. Subramaniam passed away on
the 9th of February 1995. I have never met Mrs. Subramaniam but my
friends who knew her considered her to be a warm and gentle human being.
When she was first diagnosed with the tumor, we hoped for the best.
With the help of natural medicines she seemed to be recovering before
eventually succumbing to the disease. She is survived by her children
and her husband. The following is an excerpt from Barbara Hansen's
column in the Los Angeles Times, September 13, 1990, page H49.

Viji is the daughter of noted North Indian singer Lakshmi Shankar and
Rajendra Shankar, an elder brother of sitarist Ravi Shankar. Viji was
also a musician. She had master's degree in Music from California
Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA. She used to sing and play Tambura
when she performed with her husband. The Subramaniams met in 1974 in
London while taking part in "Festival From India." They were married in
Bombay in a ceremony that lasted three days and involved serving
elaborate meals to 500 guests.
