She sang the famous "Laila o Laila" and another one called "Hum tumhe
chahte hai aise" in Qurbani.
She has also sung in Dharmatma, "kya khoob lagti ho".
IIRC Babla was music arranger for Kalyanji Anandji and they tried to promote
Kanchan before Babla and Kanchan quit the scene.
RIP
that is certainly a shocker, i had not heard about this news. just the
other day, i was listening to her qurbani songs and wondering why she
did not get any more opportunities.
segueing to recent rmim threads, this reminds me of the time when
rumours were flying around of lata's feeling threatened by nazia
hassan. it appears that kanchan would have given her a good run for
her money. who knows what is public and what is kept within the hfm
industry!
another item i remembered was how kalyanji anandji introduced new
singers to the hfm world. i wonder who are the music directors that
have introduced the most number of new singers (i believe we discussed
this briefly a few weeks ago).

The 'chutney' songs of Kanchan and Babla's are amongst the more
popular songs one gets to hear Trinidadian radio. 'phulorie [1]
bina chutney kaise bani' has been mentioned. Another of their
songs that has become famous in recent years is 'kuchh ga.D-ba.D
hai' (recall the song '(feeling) hot hot hot' from 'Bend It Like
Beckham'; the video of 'ga.D-ba.D' has Neelam running around a
tropical-looking beach with some guys and gals). I am told the
song is about 20 years old. Other songs I have heard are 'tiny
winy', 'chaadar beech' and 'behnji darling'. Some of the lyrics
are a bit risque.

[1] phulorie is a small-sized 'bonda' (pakoda) which is served
with sweet-sour-hot-spicy chutney [mango]. Dip it in and plop
it into the mouth. VERY tasty, indeed.
