I recently came across a beautiful composition by Rabindranath Tagore:
baaje koruno shurey. The link on youtube says that the song is based
on the Carnatic raaga Simhendramadhyamam. The song is pathos-filled
and seems almost tailor-made to be sung without much musical
accompaniment.

I found a superb rendering of this song by Kavita Krishnamurthy from
her recent album Bhalobashi where she has rendered about ten songs by
Tagore. Her rendering of "baaje koruno shurey" is adorned by an
elaborate prelude and some wonderful interludes by none other than L
Subramaniam.

Here is a link to her version of this song:

A version of the same song from one of Satyajit Ray's movie - Teen
Kanya:

The former youtube link says that "baaje koruno shurey" is inspired
from a Thyagaraja krithi "needu charanmuley". I have been unable to
find any links to this composition. Any pointers to this song would be
appreciated.

Thanks!
