This is the second duet that Lata has with Trilok Kapoor in 'raagrang'.
Lata sings this in a 'chhed-chhad', bubbly voice and Trilok Kapoor sings
his part in a melancholic voice. There was some talk about two-paced
songs
last week. This one fits right in. My favorite part of this song is
right
after TK completes explaining, in his somber tone, why he couldn't make
their rendevous, Lata retorts with 'milna ho to rajaji milne ke lakh
bahane...'. If only all complaints were so sweetly registered:-)

A very catchy tune, I have been humming this since morning and can't
seem to get it out of my mind.

Here are the lyrics:

And that reminds me that I promised to write the lyrics of the song 'Nayn dwaar
se man mein wo aake..' my favorite Lata-Mukesh duet from SAAWAN, Hansraj Behl.

Every part that Mukesh sings is in a slow pace, contrasted by Lata's fast and
chirpy singing. Lyrics are also good. The end of the song spoils it for me. The
'oui ma's and 'haay daiyya's could have been reduced...Otherwise it would go
to my list of complete songs(complete in the sense of all aspects of a songs:
singing, lyrics, tune, orchestration, rhythm). In my imagination after listening
to this song, the hero and the heroine must be at different places, with the
heroine blissfully unaware of the seriousness of the hero's singing. She seems
to be having fun with her friends while this guy is mooning over her. The way
Lata floats through her fast part with the 'haaye's is out of the world. She
pick ups the song from Mukesh's slow pace, sings her fast part and then again
drops the song at a slow pace with her double 'haaye's. The fast pace and high
note at which Lata sings makes you wonder where she stopped to breathe. But then
that's Lata:)

Thank you O kind soul, for bringing me this song.

Here are the lyrics.

Mukesh :
nayn dwaar se man mein wo aake
tan mein aag lagaaye...
nayn dwaar se man mein wo aake
tan mein aag lagaaye...

Lata:
haaye...(soft and slow, setting pace for the next couple of fast lines)
koi rasiya~a~a~a....
haaye re koi chhaliya chhal kiye jaaye
jiyara lalchaaye..
chayn nahi aaye...(pause)
haaye...koi chhaliya chhal kiye jaaye
jiyara lalchaaye..
chayn nahi aaye...
haaye...haaye...(no music, slows down for Mukesh to join with)

Mukesh:
nayn dwaar se man mein wo aake
tan mein aaga lagaaye...
nayn raseele chaand se mukhada
sundar roop suhana...
par bedardi dard na samjhe
jaane bas tadapaana...
phir bhi man tadapaane waala
man ka meet kahaaye...

Lata:
haaye...(soft and slow, setting pace for the next couple of fast lines)
koi rasiya~a~a~a....
haaye re koi chhaliya chhal kiye jaaye
jiyara lalchaaye..
chayn nahi aaye...(pause)
haaye...koi chhaliya chhal kiye jaaye
jiyara lalchaaye..
chayn nahi aaye...
haaye...haaye...(no music, slows down for Mukesh to join with)

and with violins changing the pace

Mukesh:
nayn dwaar se man mein wo aake
tan mein aaga lagaaye...
jab wo aaye lekar aaye...
din mein chaand sitaare...
jab wo jaaye lekar jaaye..
sab armaan hamaare...
dekh use dil tadape aur
bin dekhe raha naa jaaye..

Lata:
haaye...(soft and slow, setting pace for the next couple of fast lines)
rasiyaaaa~~~........
haaye re koi chhaliya chhal kiye jaaye
jiyara liye jaaye..
chayn nahi aaye...(pause)

Chorus : haaye...koun chhaliya...
Lata : hai ji ek chhaliye
Chorus : kaun tera rasiya jo dil liye jaaye
Lata : hai ji ek chhaliya jo man ko bhaaye..
Chorus : jiyara liye jaaye jiyara liye jaaye..jiyara liye jaayeyeyeye~~~~~~~~..
Lata: haaye re koi chhaliya chhal kiye jaaye..jiyara liye jaaye
chayn nahi aaye...
haaye...haaye...(the soft and slow ones for mukesh to join her)

Mukesh :
nayn dwaar se man mein wo aake
tan mein aaga lagaaye...
nayn dwaar se man mein wo aake..

(at this point all music stops making you think the song is over...but then the
song continues with fast paced beats...)

Lata: aha~~~~ahaa~~~(with soft claps in the background)aa~~a~~~~
o~~O~~~~o~~O~~~*fantastic*!!
extra: oui ma
extra: haay daiyya
chorus: oui ma
chorus: haay daiyya
chorus: oui ma
chorus: haay daiyya
chorus: oui ma
chorus: haay daiyya
chorus: oui ma
chorus: haay daiyya
chorus: oui ma
chorus: haay daiyya

end.

*the no. of times i have written 'oui ma', 'haay daiyya' is the exact no. of
times they appear in the song. THat is what spoilt it for me. A couple of times
they would still have maintained the endearing flavor, lekin itni baar daala ki
it got irritating.

And then in my tape I have one more stanza in only Lata's voice. Same tune, but
different lyrics, softly and slowly sung for a great effect.

nayn dwaar se man mein wo aake
tan mein aag lagaaye...
nayn dwaar se man mein wo aake
tan mein aag lagaaye...

paagal man ki paagal baatein..
kaun isey samajhaaye...
khud hi baittha...rog lagaaye
khud hi neer bahaaye...
na soye na sone de ye..
saari raat jagaaye...
nayn dwaar se man mein wo aake

Yep. This song must rank at the top when it comes to the difference in the
pace of two singers. Where Mukesh is trying to imitate Saigal at his best,
Lata sings as if she has to catch a train. Remember seeing this song long
time ago in Chhayageet. I don't remember the male actor but the female was
Ameeta. The scene was exactly like you imagine.(rarerity in Hindi films.
Because by track record, this song should take place probably at a birthday
party.) Even though it looked like both of them are singing at totally
different places, he singing alone and she frolicking with her sahelis in
garden, at the end of the two paced song , she suddenly changes gear and
sings the slow version also, as if she was listening to him all along.

While on the topic of two paces songs (if there was a thread on this topic
last week as the post mentioned, I totally missed it. So if this song was
discussed already, I am sorry.), one of my favourite is Roshan's "Jindagi
badli, Mohabbat ka maza ane laga" By Rajkumari and Lata from "Anhonee".
Nargis played a double role of two sisters, one sad ,singing in Lata's voice
because she lost Rajkapoor, and other happy singing in Rajkumari's voice for
winning him. I think in this song, the tempo changes from fast to slow and
vice versa pretty smoothly. The other similar song I fondly remember is
"Door desh se aja re" by Suraiya and Lata in Jamal Sen's "Shokhiyaa.n." The
fast part sung by Suraiya is accompanied by some heavy music.(drums etc.)
Lata only sings stanzas in this song.

Cheers

Anant
