Dear RMIMers
I'd be grateful if you could add considerably to my compilation of songs based
on Raag Malkauns which I find is one of my favourite raagas.
In my own humble opinion Rafisaab's most accomplished rendition in this raag
(or any other for that matter) and thereby Ravi's finest creation was JAANE
BAHAR HUSN TERA BEMISAAL HAI from Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya.
Hansraj Bahl's ZINDAGI BHAR GHAM JUDAAI KA from Miss Bombay is laden with
pathos as only Rafi could exude.
There are numerous other examples but I'd like RMIMers to add their favourites
and the reasons why.
Regards
Bhagwant

I think you can have sprightly songs too in this Raag.
How about "Tera jadoo na chalega O Sapere" ? I think
it is from "Guest House"---a decent score by Chitragupt
in a very forgettable film. One remembers how beautifully
Helen danced to this song.

The first song that springs to my mind when talking of Rafi and Malkauns in
the same breath is Naushad's 'Man tarpat hari darshan ko aaj' from Baiju
Bawra (1952)- it loudly announces itself as Malkauns with almost every note.

How about a cabaret by Aruna Irani? "Aankhon mein aankhen na daalo" from "Tumse
Achha Kaun Hai" (MD: S-J) is in Malkauns!

And then there is "Aap jaisa koi mere" from Qurbani - on realizing which
led to Surajit falling off from his chair :)

How about these:

- Balma maane na (Opera House)
- Nirbal se ladaai bhagwan ki (Toofan Aur Diya)
- Manmohana piya tu jo mila (Phoolon Ki Sej) - part of a ragamalika
- O pawan veg se udne wale ghode (Jai Chittod)
- Gori tera gaaon bada pyara (Chitchor)
- Mujhe na bula (Suvarna Sundari)

I forgot to include a classic: "Aadha hai chandrama raat aadhi" (Navrang)

Its great to see numerous examples of songs in Raag Malkauns. Deedar Singh
Pardesi's AANSUON KI MAIN BANI, ZAKHM KA PAIMANA BANA is very similar in
treatment to ZINDAGI BHAR GHAM JUDAAI KA from Miss Bombay(MD: Hansraj Bahl).

Any more takers out there to add to the above plus:
MAN TARPAT HARI DARSHAN KO AAJ
TERA JADOO NA CHALEGA O SAPERE
AANKHON MEIN AANKHEN NA DAALO

JAANE BAHAR HUSN TERA BEMISAAL

Lata's "pankha hote to ud aati re" easily comes to my mind.

A long time ago, I had posted a question about the composer Ravi's seeming
fondness for Malkauns-based compositions. "Jaan-e-Bahaar" is just one
example. Others are:

Chhoo Lene Do Naazuk Honthon Ko (Rafi, "Kaajal")
Raaz-e-Dil Unse Chhupaaya Na Gaya (Rafi, "Apna Banake Dekho")
Kaun Apna Kaun Paraya (title song, Rafi)
Chham Chham Ghungroo Bole (Asha B. "Kaajal")

more Malkauns-es (I'm drawing also from oher nettors' posts)

Ankhiyan Sang Ankhiyaan Laage Aaj (Rafi, "Bada Aadmi", MD=Chitragupt)
Aaye Sur Ke Panchhi (Pt. Raajan/Saajan Misra, "Sur Sangam", MD=Laxmi-Pyare)

Tu Chhupi Hai Kahaan and Aadha Hai Chandramaa ("Navrang", MD=C. Ramchandra)

I think "deep jalaye jo geeto.n ki main ne" from KALAKAR
(neele neele amabar fame) is also based on Malkauns

Thanks for all the suggestions for film songs based on Raag Malkauns.
I was talking to Deedar Singh Pardesi yesterday and he reliably informs me that
PANKH HOTE TO UD JAATI RE from SEHRA may not be Malkauns. It may be
Bhoop(Bhoopali).
He also suggested the Rafi song MAT BHOOL ARE INSAAN...TERI NEKI BADI...
