Many of us have both versions of the song. In both versions,
the first line has been sung by Lata. But today I got hold
of a new version by Lata + Meena Kapoor. Source - Pakistani
EMI LP release, circa 1981, LP # LKDA 391, which has 8 songs
of Aag on side A + 9 songs of Anokha Pyaar on side B.
This version has been correctly labelled after Lata and Meena
Kapoor. The strange thing about it is that the first line has
been sung by Meena. I had never heard this version before.
The first line can be heard in Lata's voice on the film's video.
Here is how Lata-Ira version, source 78, starts :
Lata :
ai dil merii wafaa me.n koii asar nahii.n hai
mai.n mar rahii huu.N jin par un ko Kabar nahii.n hai
ai dil merii wafaa me.n
Lata continues with an abrupt increase in volume :
mere hii dil me.n rah kar ......
Starting of Lata-Meena version on Pakistani LP :
Meena :
ai dil merii wafaa me.n koii asar nahii.n hai
ai dil merii wafaa me.n
Lata takes over with an abrupt and rather big increase in volume :
mere hii dil me.n rah kar ......
Starting of Lata-Meena version on most/all cassette/CD releases
in India, which should be reflected on video as well, is the same
as Lata-Ira 78 version as far as sequence of words goes but
Lata's first line sounds much sweeter in LM-MK version than
in LM-IN version.
Lata (sounding much sweeter than she does on the 78 version) :
ai dil merii wafaa me.n koii asar nahii.n hai
mai.n mar rahii huu.N jin par un ko Kabar nahii.n hai
ai dil merii wafaa me.n
Lata continues with an abrupt increase in volume :
mere hii dil me.n rah kar ......

This song Ae Dil Meri Wafa Mein is by: Lata + Meena Kapoor and is
the film (soundtrack) version.
There are two more errors on the CD's inlay card, but those are
minor
and most listeners can correct it without a clue from outsider.

I was readinga book by Shirish kanekar( published in 70 s) and there
in one lata' s interview it was mentioned that Before Daman where K
datta recorded Lata/asha first duet, lata has requested Anil vishwas
to record this song in asha's voice alongwith her. They rehearsed
together but asha could not make it to reocrding so it was recorded in
ira's voice.
So one more song to list of songs that asha lost. Other ones
1. garjat barsat sawan ayo re
2. ae mere watan ke logo
3. ye javali ghe javali ( meena mangeshkar composed song in marathi
then sung by lata).
