I remember its a sort of 'live' recording with the audience participating with
the male singer during the performance.
It is sung in part Enlish and part Hindi.
I remember parts of the song :-
singer : everyone repeat this after me...kalli ter gut tey paranda tera laal ni
(ahoon ahoon!)
audience : repeats the words etc
singer : all the over fort fives sing this with me....kalli teri gut tey.....
audience : (hardly anyone can be heard joining in)
<singer laughs at this stage and makes a remark about the youthfulness of the
audience>
then he gets all the under 30s to join him and theres a big roar on the stage..
Can anyone tell me the name of this singer and where I can find this song? I
have tried a lot of the asian record stores in London but they have been unable
to help me ... This newsgroup is more or less my last resort.

This song was originally sung by ASA SINGH MASTANA. and due to its
immense popularity many singers adapted/modified this song and
even included some English words in it. This song was sung
in almost all concerts etc. when ot was famous.
I think the English words were introduced by Usha Uthup (Iyer).
The latest modification was made in the movie Bahar Aane Tak as u
mentioned.
So u should look for a cassestte by ASA SINGH MASTANA to listen
to the original version of this beautiful song.
If u want I can post the lyrics of this song on the net.
The lyrics are in Punjabi though.

Look for a collection of this individual's songs.
I believe that it is on a tape called "Usha 87" or 85 or something.
Also, just for yucks, you might want to check out the songs from
a Pakistani Punjabi movie from around '88 called "Allah Ditta"
(no, I don't watch Punjabi movies :-) as I believe that there is nothing
as low-brow, but comparing the two songs is kind of funny) that has
a song that goes "Kaali meri pagh tey ghulabi shalwar ji ...."

And now back to your regular programming.
P.S.
If you're in the U.K. maybe you can help me.
Do you know if "Heera" sells T-shirts or anything?
Brittish bands don't get too much play Stateside.
Thanks.
