What a lovely lovely lovely song. What a music. I am blown. Catch it and
enjoy.
rest of the lyrics were somthing like
mitaane se nahin mitati...
daraane se nahi.n darte
vatan ke naam pe sar kataane se nahi.n darte
Des mere, des mere meri jaan hai tu
Des mere, des mere meri shaan hai tu
scene was people taking out a juloos (procession) from narrow streets.
I am sure I heard it des, but it could be desh (country). Des is eastern
U.P.'s purabia, awadhi pronunciation of the same.

Music of same film released by more than one company?
i don't think so. please verify.
Are there previous instances in which more than one company released the
music of the same film?

I think the reference is to one of the films whose music is on Tips. If four
films are being made with the same title (or thereabouts), I am sure the music
rights would be bought by four different companies.

I know of at least one Hindi film (music by R.D. Burman), whose music rights
were sold by the "scheming" producer to two different music companies, but
under different film names. Both cassettes were indeed released. This was
right around the time of R.D. Burman's death, maybe a few months before or
after. I forget the name of the film, but IIRC, one of the songs did have the
word "vaadaa" in its mukhadaa. Maybe Ketan can help with the titles of the
films.
Happy listenings.

Right, as a matter of fact, there are four Bhagat Singh Movies out right now
but they all don't have the same titles. More information on them is given
below:
- Shaheed-e-Azam (On catrack Records, Cassette: CAT-1172), MD: Maqbool
Khan, Sabar Ali and Sardool Sikandar, Lyrics: Khwaja Parvez, S.M. Sadiq,
(one traditional by Bulle Shah) and one song attributed to Bhagat Singh
himself.
- Shaheed Bhagat Singh (On Venus Records, Cassette: VCS 4877), MD: Jaidev
Kumar, Lyrics by Naqsh Layallpuri. Has a song by the title "Mera rang de"
and two others by the titles: "Paghdi Sambhaal" and "Sarfaroshi ki
tamanna". They didn't sound that great the first time, but mera rang de
ends up being "not a bad" tune after a couple of hearings. Although the
original lyrics are completely gone except the line:" Mera rang de basanti
chola..."
- The Legend of Bhagat Singh (starring Ajay Devgan, On Tips), MD: ARR,
Lyrics: Sameer
(haven't heard it yet, but can't wait to get my hands on it). Also has
songs by the title of "Mera rang de", "Paghdi sambhaa" and "Sarfaroshi ki
tamanna".
- 23rd March, 1931 Shaheed (Starring Bobby Deol, on T-Series) MD: Anand Raj
Anand, lyrics: Dev Kohli. Also has songs by the titles of "Mera rang de",
"paghadi sambhaa" and "Sarfaroshi ki tamanna". Another song with the title
"Aye watan"..
little side note: I saw covers of all four and Bobby portrayed the famous
pose of Bhagat Singh (with his hat tilted and his little thicker than pencil
moustache with a lil curve at both extremes) very well.
is there a fifth film on Bhagat Singh?? I hear there is, but haven't seen
any info on it anywhere. I have heard the first two, Saheed Bhagat Singh by
Jaidev is better than the Shaheed-e-Azam, but they are both very
disappointing in terms of music. Hopefully ARR does justice to the theme
with some great music and we can have something to compare with the original
and most famous SBS starring "Bharat" Manoj Kumar and the other one with
Dilip Kumar.
Best Regards,
Amit Malhotra
p.s. Sometimes, I have also seen some titles being released by two
companies, but i remember we figured this happened because the company that
originally released the title sold the rights to another company and the
other company then released the title too. I know I have seen them, but
can't seem to find the titles that I saw that fit this example. I remember
another case where same soundtrack was released by two companies (due to
sale of the rights to the soundtrack) but under different titles... cant
remeber it though. :-)
'Nadiya Ke Paar' (80s) is available from T-series as well as RPG.

This movie is made by a Pakistani film-maker named Iqbal Dhillon and
apparently it features a Pakistani model named Sonu or Pakistani actor named
Shaan (not sure!) as Bhagat Singh. The MD Sabar Ali has "(Pakistan)" written
right next to his name on the cover of the album. Interestingly, the movie
has used playback singers Sonu Nigam, Sadhna Sargam, Udit Narayan (leading
Indian Signers of course)

This film my dear friends, casts punjabi singer Harbhajan Mann (famous song:
Chithiye ni chithiye) as Bhagat Singh. To be noted is the fact that
Harbhajan Mann sings Mera Rang de as well as Sarfaroshi Ki tamanna in his
own voice. This one is supposed to open on June 7th.

detailed reviews of this one were already posted by Rawat (THANKS!). I wish
i could get my hands on it... :-) Being Released on June 21st.

Apparently, this is Sunny Deol's BIG project. Rumor
(http://www.b4utv.com/Newsbreak/news2/news909manoj.htm) has it that he even
convinced Manoj Kumar to give up the idea of remaking his Shaheed (1965) and
used MK to write the dialogues and script of the movie. Manoj Kumar says
that this movie will include many aspects of Bhagat Singh's life that were
not present in Shaheed (1965). But then again, I have also heard otherwise
(http://www.bollyvista.com/bollywoodnews/2002/february/38.html). Its being
released also on June 21st.

Apparently yes there is, its called: "Ab Ke baras". Produced by Raj Kanwar
and opens on May 10 (which is in a few days! Haven't heard about the music
on this one yet!). It features Raj Babbar's son Arya who is playing Bhagat
Singh. Thats all I got on this one and only from one source too! So can't
say how reliable it is.

But I need help in translations. several panjabi words and concepts used
in the lyrics are not clear to me. and
what does "pagdi sambhal" imply?
who/ what is "shora" and does the entire song imply.
what is "cheere vaalyaa" in mahive.
and some other. Some words are transliterated from whatever sounds I
could make out. It could need correction.
soon, I am going to post these with english translations, as well in as
hindi font to my website at http://arrahmansong.dhs.org

Both the soundtracks can be heard at :
http://www.bollyvista.com/music/clips/2002/
i heard the little track preview on the website of TLOBS and it seemed like
the guy was saying "suno to pahchaaniye..." i'll get the album tomorrow or
day after tomorrow and will be able to assist you with the lyrics then.
Best Regards

no, no.
It is written on cassette flap "shora so pahchaniye".

I wish to add that he has written much less praising the song.
The song is superb, captivating, enriching, ecstatic,
lovely-lovelier-loveliest. An innocent naughtiness. freshness.
beg, borrow or steal on the net, or just buy, but do listen to it.
It is from The legend of Bhagat Singh, released a few days ago.
The cassette is a collector item. You won't mind buying it for Rs 40.50
enjoy.

PS: just a few days ago, I mentioned whether anyone could come up with
marvelous "jogi, ham to luut gaye tere pyaar mein".
ARR hasn't. "jogi, ham to" is pure indian punjabi music with dholak and
chorus, whereas TLOBS's two duets do not have that punjabi feel.
but maahive is soul soothing.

Do not believe everything written on the cassette flap.

The authenticated words (Shabads) by Bhakt Kabir are:
"sooraa sau pehchaaniye ju larai deen ke hayt"
"purjaa purjaa kaT marai, kabahoo na chhaaDai khayt"
These are the words recorded in the aadi-granth, [the holy book of the
Sikhs, considered the present Guru/teacher] page 1105, in the section
of raag maaru. Bakt Kabir recited/penned these words about 500 years
ago and a team of great scholars lead by Guru Arjan Dev made them
immortal about 400 years ago by carefully and thoroughly validating
them and then recording them in the aadi-granth. Originals of
aadi-granth are preserved in museums. Copies of aadi-granth are
read daily in millions of Sikh homes and Gurudwaras.
IMHO, The clearest interpretation of these words was provided by our
own Guri in article <3653B6C2...@ix.netcom.com>.
Guri clarified:
___________________________________________________________________________
sooraa=soormaa, bahaadur purush, brave man
sau=vo, that
ju=jo, who
larai=laD.e, fights
deen=poor, one who is not provided for, unprotected

(Kabir says, he bhaayee) soormaa us manushya ko samajhnaa chaahiye jo

> jo dho prem khelan ka chaaho
> sir dharh gali gali muriyaao
The authenticated words (Shabads) by Guru Nanak are:
"jau tau prem khelaNn kaa chaau"
"sir dhar talee galee meree aao"
followed by
"itu maarag payr dhareejai"
"sir deejai kaaNn na keejai"
These are the words in the aadi-granth page 1412, in the last section after
all the raag-specific sections. These were also recited/penned about 500 years
ago.
Guri in article <3653B6C2...@ix.netcom.com> gave the following
interpretation:
___________________________________________________________________________
jau=agar, if
tau=tumhe.n, you
chaau=shauk, desire
sir=sar, head
dhar=rakh kar, after putting upon
talee=haathelee, palm

dhareejai=rakhiye, put
kaaNn=jhijak, hesitation
(Nanak says, he bhaayee) yadi tumhe.n (prabhu-)prem kee kreeRaa khelne kaa
shauk hai,
to apnaa sar hathelee par rakh kar (arthaat lok-laaj chhoR kar, ahembhaav
door kar ke) meree galee mei.n aanaa.

(to usi vaqt jab) sar ke bhe.nT karne mei.n (koyee) jhijak na ho.
