Hi RMIMers:

Returned yesterday from the wonderful RMIM Denver 2003 meet. Hearfelt
thanks to Gargi, Guri and Arushi! Full report will come from Vijay Kumar
Saigalwalaa, as usual.

I gave an hour-long mid-term exam disguised as a "quiz". I distributed
126 numbered photos of Hindi film actors sans names. Here actor is
defined as any one who is listed in the cast of the movies in the bible,
Hindi Film Geet Kosh. There are about 7,600 people (1931-1980) listed. I
would guess that by 2003 we can add another 2,400.

So look at the 126 pictures and see how many you know the names of and
how many you recognize as having seen. Solution with comments in about
10 days.

Look out for

The lady who played 9 roles in a silent movie.
Iftekhar's sister.
Ritu's uncle.
Fitna of Barsat Ki Rat.
The one who is called Anjana Mumtaz these days.
Two Sitas.
The blind singer and his handicapped friend from Dosti.
Johny Walker's brother.
The first singer of the first Hindi film song [in Alamara (1931)].
Many perennial moms, uncles and sisters.
The qawwali loser in Barsat Ki Rat.
The "madrasi" of AVM movies.
javaan ho yaa bu.Dhiyaa singer from Bhabhi.
Agha dressed as a female.
Producer, director of crime/suspense movies.
Preeti Bala who became Zeb Rehman.
Bhagwan Sinha.
The producer who gave Bina Rai and 2 others a break.

More later.

Mehmood's girl friend's father, often.
Sharmila's dad in Anupama.
He and Mumtaz's sister were introduced in Dil Deke Dekho.
Dilip Raj's dad.
She has a perfect bihari accent.
Surendra slapped him in Anmol Ghadi.

Kismat? I think he is in the song 'Aaj himalay ki choti ne'. He did seem to
have hair there.

Has anyone seen David with hair ? IIRC even in Nadiya Ke Paar(1948) he
was bald.

Balaji may be partly right, because in qismat he may have some hair to
part. He had an extended role. I believe he was mostly bald. Will check.

You have come with an interesting new meaning for "partly". :)

I saw qismat (1943) again. I just love this movie! John Chacha (playing
a pawnbroker) is always shown with a dark cap covering his head with
hair coming out from the sides. At one time the hero beats him up, but,
true to film tradition, his cap stays on! So, I can still say that I
have never seen John Chacha with hair!

Hi RMIMers:

Here is how to see the names of the 126 people pictured on my website.

Just use View Page Source on Netscape
or
View Source on Internet Explorer. You will see the names following the
code like alt=

Or, just use a very slow [:)] connection and the name will be displayed
as alternate text.

Very soon, I will write the names and some remarks beside the numbers.
