I found a bunch of answers on the web:

Any ideas what it really means?
PS: Is Gulzar involved somehow ? :)
no this is prasun joshi the adman who is the new gulzar on the block.
the reference is of course to marigold which is the standard flower
for all garlands - but strangely does not have any strong fragrance.
it also has a lot of petals which need to be juxtaposed to make a good
marigold. unlike a rose which has fragrance and probably fewer petals
(8-10). marigold can have over 100 petals.
so the flower marigold is likened to a joint family where petals of
different sizes are juxtaposed and have to look their best to create
the pretense of a beautiful thing :)
OK, then what is Maaykaa?, poppy :)
Why, that would be Mom's Genda :-) No? Of course, I do not speak for
Poppy :-)
If Sasural is Genda then what kind of phool is maayakaa?
rose for the girl and belladonna for the boy :(
I think Maayka would not be a flower, perhaps a place where flowers
grow and then have to leave, such as nursery.
QUIZ:
Name a few words/phrases that are used for the place where girls grow
before they leave, with examples, e.g. baabul moraa maaykaa.
Its old folk song and term.. cant blame or Prasoon Joshi (credited in
D6) for the origin!
naihar, nanihaal, saasra,
