Not a Musical information but interesting....

Nanabhai Bhatt * had made "Mr. X ." in 1957
It was Hindi version of "The Invisible Man," a famous Hollywood movie,
based on
the book written by H.G. Wells.
"Mr. X in Bombay" was considered as hit.
Reason, movie was made with very low budget and earned higher revenue
at the box
office.
Ashok Kumar, top most hero at that time, was in lead.

someone asked Nanabhai, "How you can afford such “A” class hero for a
"C" class
movie?""It went like this," Nanabhai replied, "After reading script,
and talking to me,
Ashok Kumar had doubt on my ability to complete movie in time. So he
had
proposed to charge on daily bases. He had asked for Rs. 2000 per day.
I had agreed. On very first day, he arrived at studio in the morning
and on time. Set was
ready. We finished filming of opening sequence, where the scientists
prepare the
drug in his lab, accidentally drink it and become invisible. Then we
shoot last
sequence of the movie, where he was shot by the police, and time of
his death he
becomes visible again. At the end of first day of shooting, I paid
Ashok Kumar his fee of Rs.2000.
In the rest of the movie, the character of “invisible man” is totally
covered,
from top to bottom, from hat to the toes and hands covered with
gloves. So I
picked up a smart junior artist, matching to the height of Ashok
Kumar, asked
him to put on same cloths, hat and goggles and finished rest of the
movie.”

The last sentence is confusing. Did you instead mean "Mr. X" in Bombay
was considered as hit ?
Thanks for the interesting info.

There were two films. The film you are mentioning Mr. X was made in
1957. Another film Mr.X in Bombay was made in 1964. You are mixing the
two films.

Did Mr X have a tragic ending? I have seen Mr X in Bombay and remember
it was a comedy and did not have any tragic ending.
The junior artiste who played the invisible Ashok Kumar was Mehmood -
Can somebody confirm this? I believe the producer was G P Sippy
Cheers
