SN Tripathi has composed some very memorable songs during his career as
a music director. His musical journey lasted from 1941 thru early 1960s.
S.N. Tripathi (Shrinath Tripathi) was a student of Saraswati Devi
(Khurshed Banu) who was running a Music school in Lukhnow. When
Saraswati Devi went to Mumbai to join Himansu Roy's Bombay Talkies, she
took her best student SN Tripathi with her.
His plan was to play violin in orchestra but he was a good singer and
end up singing for Ashok Kumar in "Jeevan Naiya". The song was "Eri
daiya Lachak Lachak Chal Mohan Aave". In his career he has been not
only a singer and MD but has written film story and in "Sangeet Samrat
Tansen" played the role of Akbar. He gave music mostly in religious and
mythological films.

This is from Jai Chittod(61).
Prabhu Tumhi prakash do(Lata) is also from this film.

Before you buy.
I believe so, yes. They gave music together in a few
films, e.g. Ali Baba Chalees Chor (stg. Shakeela,
Mahipal, B.M. Vyas etc.).
Afzal
He had acted in other movies too. In "Ali Baba
Chalees Chor", he enacted the part of the avaricious
king who meets his just desserts at the hands of the
bandits, culminating in a truly "macabre" song :
"qismat siye ja siye ja siye ja,".
I was browsing thru the Geet Kosh last night and found 2 more movies in which
SNT has acted. One was Pavanputra Hanuman, a 1957 release. The other one(whose
name has escaped my memory just 2 mins ago, had music by Chitragupta. AFAIR, it
was a 1956 movie)
Also, I do remember seeing SNT's name in the 70's issue of the Geet Kosh too, so
whoever stated that his career ended in the 60's could be wrong.
Ketan
I don't remember the details now, but I remember SNT in credits for acting in
more than just a couple of movies. Some are in Hindi for sure, but many are also
in the regional movies listed in the appendices. Also, SNT seems to have
produced, directed and on occasion written the screenplay.
And his career does seem to span right from 40s to 70s.
- Balaji
Another movie where Tripathi did a role was
"HatimTai" stg. the late Jairaj and Shakila.
S. N. Tripathi played the role of the King of
Paristan in whose court Jairaj sings the
well-known Rafi song : "Parwardigaar-e-aalam,
tera hi hai sahaara".
BTW, can anyone tell me whether another Rafi
song from this movie "Jaanewaale Khuda ki
rahmatoN ka tujh pe saaya" was picturised in
full in the movie ?
Another point about the name of the person who
is the subject of this movie. In films and
articles etc. he is usually referred to as
Hatim bin Tai. This is entirely wrong. He was
in fact a historical figure from Arabia whose
generous nature has become legendary. He
belonged to the qabila or clan of "Tai" (pronounced
like "hai" in "zindagi kya hai", hence the
appellation "Tai" (which is pronounced as
"Taa-i".
This rare Lata gem, one of my favourite songs, is composed by S.N.Tripathi.
It from "Alladin Aur Jaadui Chirag"(1952) - alias "Alladin & Wonderful
Lamp".
