All, just a reminder that this is in exactly one week - hope to see
some of you there!
Cheers,
Sanjeev
Sanjeev & Armeen,
Congratulations on an excellent and entertaining
show. Thoroughly enjoyed your performances, and
even though you might not have seen it from the
stage, my daughter *was* dancing in the aisles to
your songs. That she even enjoyed the "kuhuu-kuhuu"
parts of your concert is a tribute to the
versatility of your oeuvre.
For the benefit of RMIMers who couldn't make it
some of the songs played were
- o haseena zulfo vali
- kuhu kuhu bole koyaliya
- roja jaan-e-man
- kabhi kabhi aditi
- ye zindagi usi ki hai
- beeDi jalaile
- ki mai.n jhuTT boliyaa
- ho.nTho.n pe aisii baat
Vijay
I wonder if Sanjeev would be kind enough to oblige us with the reason
for selecting "kabhi kabhi Aditi". I count myself amongst Rahman's
fans but this one's too much for even me to tolerate. "pappu" even is
preferable! :)

Um, it's kinda fun to sing, I guess? As I mentioned before starting
the song, it seems very palpably connected to the earlier ARR track
"Kaadhal Sadugudu" from "Alai Paayuthey" ("Ae Udi Udi" from
"Saathiyaa" in Hindi), which I am fond of. Is it the original vocals
including the strange accent that grates on you, or some other aspect
of the song?
Vijay, just saw your post now - thanks very much for coming, and glad
you and your daughter enjoyed it!
Sanjeev
On a related note, the other ARR number we did was "In Lamhon Ke
Daaman Men" from "Jodhaa Akbar".
Sanjeev
I don't know why I'm not terribly impressed with that song. You could
say my response upon listening to it was "uhhh, whatever!" I'm sure I
couldn't even be bothered to analyze why I react to it this way, but
yes, the original vocals are extremely unimpressive (Rahman got it
right with Adnan for ae uRi-3) and the lyrics, well, what can you say.
If you have fun singing it, then I'm sure you make it sound better
than the original -- not that it would take a singer of your caliber
to make it sound so.
"In lamhon ke daaman mein" -- now there's a song you can't argue with
the choice of!
