I don't understand a word of Gujrati. In 1953 or around this date I
heard a song on Radio Pakistan by Geeta Roy, which sounded like
"Risayeka ... navelia". I wanted this record and a friend who had
contacts in Radio Pakistan Karachi obtained this 78 RPM Record for me.
It was left in my 78 RPM collection in Karachi. Can anybody remember
this song !

Difficult to say. Could it be:
mujh thii kem risaayaa saajan (Kahyagro Kanth, 1950, M:Indukumar
Parekh, L:Durgesh Shukla)
I have not heard the song so I am not sure if "risaayaa" is in the
refrain. Also, I assume you are referring to a solo song.

I cannot say if it is "most popular". It was reasonably popular I
guess. Certainly a great hit among people of Ahmedabad since it talked
about their beloved city.

i am not a connesuir of gujarati songs. but i do love to listen to some when
opportunity presents. specially the rass songs give me goose bumps. eg,
khamma mara nand ji key laal, morli kharee vagaadi? i remember one song that
used to tickle me a lot. which talked about "rokda aje aney udhar kaley". it
was sung by the one and only manna dey. i would like to include this song if
i can get it. i notice that gujarati folks have used manna dey's talent a
whole more, kinda disproportionately than would be the case for hindi scene.
i congratulate them. the language is very sweet, and the people so loving.

I have included this one in my list. This is an old song (might have
been penned by Narsinh Mehta) and has been sung by several artists. I
had recommended the Hemu Gadhvi version. He is one of my favorite folk
singers.

This song is "charara charara maruu.n chakaDoL chaale". IIRC, this is
available at hamaracd.com. It should also be downloadable (try a
google search with the mukhada).

Waa..h! You reminded me of what a wonderful bhajan, so beutifuly sung
by Mahendra Kapuur.
{although,i`ve heard the same (not complete) song by Purshottam bhai
in a live program, and it does not even come close to the MK original.
I`d love to have the recording of MK bhajan.I have the full lyric.
