Wasn't their a rip-off copy with Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri? The words were
something like Tamma tamma de de. Was the word tamma, and if so what the
hell does it mean?

Yep, from the movie Thaanedaar, and I THINK it came out slightly before
the 'Jumma Chumma' movie. (was it 'HUM'?) The words WERE, 'Tamma Tamma
de do' I think, same beat though..

As was mentioned during the 'Naye Zamaane ke Geet' Chitrahaar,
the two songs created a (then) unique controversy about 'who copied
the tune first'?

The source of both the songs is music by the Afro-pop group
Mory Kante. While 'Jooma chumma de de' (Ikram, I got the spelling
right!!! :-) ) from 'Hum' is a more-or-less faithful adaptation of
'Tamma tamma loge' (the original Mory Kante song) by Laxmi-Pyaare;
Bappi Lahiri's 'tamma tamma loge' from 'Thaanedaar' combines the beats
of another Mory Kante number 'Yeke yeke' (which can be heard on the
background score of 'Agneepath') with the original 'tamma tamma
loge'.

Now as regards what 'tamma' means, you'll need a Swaahili
expert... :-)

Interestingly, word "tamma" was used freely throughout the movie "Thanedar".

They used it as synonym for pyar/mohabbat though there is nothing like that
in Hindi.

Example:

Madhuri : Mujhe tumse wo ho gaya hai
Sanju : Kya ?
Madhuri : Wo... wo...
SAnju : Oh, tamma tamma !?!

So , now in this context, line "tamma tamma loge" makes sense, isn't it ?

Thanx for trying to clear the doubt Rizwan anyway both the songs were copy-cats
of an AFRICAN tribal song-turned-into a modern song. Its words were like:
Tama tama loge tama tama loge (not tam-ma tam-ma as in the hindi version)but
Bappi sahab was first to translate it into hindi coz we in Fiji heard Tamma
tamma then came jumma chumma.

Beacause the people in Fiji heard it first, should the world consider it first?
FYI. Jumma Chumma was heard in India way before your Bappi 'sahab' heard the
African tune.

Here's some comments on "J"umma Chumma and Tamma Tamma -
JC (Jumma Chumma, Not Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ!) was
available on tape much before the release of Hum
(thanks to all the patient editing enforced by AB), and
it was gaining a lot of popularity, and Coppy Lahiri
wanted to make some money on that, so he made the copy
"Tamma Tamma", and it was patched onto the already ready
print of Thanedaar (see Thanedaar and look at the scene
where TT comes on, if you are not convinced).

This is why some Fijians believe that TT is the original.
For them, seeing(esp. on the silver screen) is believing!

I am not convinced about patching stuff. As I have already said, the
word "Tamma" appears many times in the dialogues. So it is not possible
that print was ready before Tamma Tamma was patched up.

GEE YOU ARE SUCH A STUPID PERSON !! WHETHER JC OR TT CAME FIRST THE THING IS
BOTH WERE COPIED FROM THAT AFRICAAN TUNE OR WAS IT THE AFRICAANS WHO COPIED JC
TUNE ? WHEN THIS HAPPENED (THE COPYING I MEAN) NITHER YOU NOR I WAS PRESENT SO
WE CANT SAY FOR SURE. AND BESIDES YOUR PATCHING IDEA SOUNDS TOOOOO FAIRY LIKE -
GET IT !!
THE OTHER THING WHICH IS PERHAPS TYPICAL OF YOUR KIND THAT IF YOU CANT FIND
WORDS TO EXPRESS YOURSELF YOU QUICKLY RESORT TO RACISM COMMENTS. THAT COMMENT
HAS BEEN DELETED FROM MY REPLY BUT IF ANYONE WANTS TO READ IT THEN TURN TO THE
COMMENT BY vinod sahab

I CAN ALSO SAY THE SAME THINGS TO YOU BUT THEN WHAT WILL BE THE DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN YOU AND ME ? THERE IS A SAYING IN HINDI:

KUTTA JAB PAHAD KO BHOKTA HAI TO HANI SIRF KUTTE HI KO PADE GI PAHAD TO WAISA
HI RAHE GA !!

OK THEN TIME TO SHOW MY REAL ETHNICITY:

DEAR BROTHER IN A TRUE FIJIAN MANNER I BOW MY HEAD TO YOU IF I MAY HAVE CAUSED
ANY SORT OF HARD FEELINGS TO YOU. IT IS NOT HOW WE BEHAVE. PLEASE ACCEPT MY
SINCERE APOLOGY.

Couple of pointers I want to make. Hindi films and songs, given what
they are make no sense most of the times. For all you know, the director
may have had a liking for the word tamma and asked that it be used in the
song! Anyway, most hindi lyrics don't rhyme.

Second, and on a totally different note, I refuse to quote the article
of one Salmaan khan who then morphs into Aamir khan and then hurls
insults at Vinod. However, I must say that I know Vinod personally
( having studied in the same school as his and having stayed at the same
hostel as his) and I *know* that he usually has his music/filmi fundaes
straight. He is no racist and he has a great sense of humour. I am but
forced to say that some Fijians have no sense of humor and are anally
retentive and have a fascination for male Hindi film stars or believe
that they are one. Get a life --what is it this time - Shah Rukh Khan?

I guess your posting itself shows whether my geography knowledge is low or your IQ
level. (Well since we know that your IQ level is definetly low, it's better to le
you know that later is that case. :-])

Who said anything about that? Not me.

As for the penmenship of the above lines, nowhere in the posting I say that it is
penned by me. For the benifit of others, it's from a song of the movie Main
Khilari Tu Anari. And for god's sake turn your Caps Lock off.
