There was an post in soc.culture.indian.telugu which
said music for the above movie is by Keeravani (a.k.a Maragathamani)
who is currently the top MD in telugu. It has been a while since
Ilaiyaraaja has composed for a telugu movie. Incidentally this
is K.Viswanath's first movie after a (self-imposed?) break. He
was pretty distresed about his string of flops, it seems.

This is a list of movies released in Madras for Deepavali.

NAMMAVAR:
* Kamal, Gouthami, Nagesh, Srividya.
Music:Mahesh.
Dir:Sethumadhavan.
Kamal an ex student of an arts college in Madras,
later becomes a History Professor in the same
college. He comes to realise that he suffers from
cancer and may not live for long. Instead of
listening to his sister Sri Vidya, he decides to
reform the students and finally goes to the US
for treatment. Gouthami keeps him company. Features
an 'a capella' song (no instruments).
PS: For Kamal fans, his next movie is in Telugu (will
also be dubbed in Tamil) with K.Vishvanath, and is
produced by S.P.Balasubramaniam. Illayaraja is doing
the music and Priya Raman ("Valli") is the heroine.
VEERAPADAKKAM:
* Sathyaraj, Urvasi, Radhika, Manivannan, Nizhalgal Ravi,
Silk Smitha, Raghuvaran, VijayKrishnaraj.
Music: Illayaraja.
Dir: Manivannan.
Based on a story by Arignar Anna called "Sevvazhvu", it is
about the rise of a poor orphan who becomes a honest
DSP. Urvasi is his wife who later becomes a minister.
Radhika is his ex lover who is forced to marry Nizhalgal Ravi.
Vijaykrishnaraj and Raghuvaran (he is called Valakanaisingh
Vadivelu) play the villains who smuggle arrack. Satyaraj
finally eliminates all the evil elements.
PERIYA MARUDU:
* Vijayakanth,Ranjitha, Pragathi, Mahesh Anand, Sangili Murugan.
Music: Illayaraja.
Dir: N.K.Visvanathan.
Vijayakanth plays the loyal follower of village henchman Mahesh
Anand, who later turns out to be a traitor. So Vijayakanth turns
against him.
KARUTHAMMA:
* Raja, Maheshwari (Sri Devi's step sister), Rajasree.
Music: Rehmaan.
Dir: Bharathiraja.
(PS: I believe Karuthamma is Bharathiraja's mother's name).
Its about a village which practices female infanticide and
favours only male children! Raja is a doctor who visits the
village and falls in love with Karuthamma (Rajasree).
PAVITHRA:
* Radhika, Nasser, Ajit Kumar.
Music: Rehmaan.
Dir: K.Subaash.
Nasser and Radhika are happily married. Radhika is a nurse
in a hospital and Ajit Kumar is her patient. Due to some
misunderstanding, a rumor spreads that Radhika and her
patient are having an affair, causing Nasser to leave her.
The story concentrates on how Radhika wins him back.
JALLIKATTAI KAALAI:
* Prabhu, Kanaka, Anandraj, R.Sunderrajan, Sendil.
Music: Illayaraja.
Dir: K.Balu.
Prabhu, a mill worker is in love with Kanaka, the owner's
daughter. The owner, who goes my the name of Loose Gounder
(played by Nanadraj) doesnt approve of Prabhu, and the rest
of the movie is about how Prabhu wins his love. Its supposed
to be a comedy-drama.
NATTAMAI:
* Sarat Kumar, Vijayakumar, Kushboo, Meena.
Music: Illayaraja.
Dir: Ravikumar.
When Vijayakumar the Nattamai of the village dies, his
eldest son assumes the position. His younger brother's
city bred wife disapproves of this and causes a rift
in the family causing tension in the village, but is resolved
by the Elder brother and his wife. Sarat KUmar and Kushboo
play the elder brother and his wifer. Sarat Kumar (Dual role)
and Meena play the younger couple.
