Vividh Bharati hosts a Chhaya Geet program every night from 10:00 -
10:30 PM, with selections and accompanying commentary by a host, whom
they have a couple of. These selections tend to be a bit esoteric and
off the beaten path compared to those appearing in the immediately
following, request-based "Aap Ki Pasand".
Today's program was unusually good in that barring two selections I
was listening to them for the very first time. Moreover the songs were
uniformly excellent, not a single dud. Here is the line-up (the theme
was "chaand" songs):
chaand gagan mein ek hai chamke do chanda- Mubarak Begum ( Aandhi Aur
Tufan – Robin Banerjee)
chandaa se hogaa vo pyaaraa –Lata, PB Srinivas (Main Bhi Ladki Hoon -
Chitragupt)
missed this one - early 50s song by Asha, Geeta Roy
haseen chaa.Nd sitaaro.n kaa vaastaa – Asha, Talat (Mera Salaam -
Hafeez Khan)
chandramaa.N jaa un se kahanaa – Lata, Mahendra Kapoor (Amar Jyoti -
Vasant Desai)
dekhaa kis chandaa ko aaj tere – Lata, (Raam Leela - SN Tripathi)
chanda ke des mein rahatii – Mukesh (Mere Ghar Mere Bachche - Sardar
Malik)
Following this sterling line up they began "Aap Ki Pasand" w/ Pankaj
Udhas' "chiTThii aa_ii hai" at which point I switched off the radio
and decided to do more useful things.
And now after this brief diversion let's get back to Lacoste shoes,
Polo T-shirts, Rayban/Gucci glasses ...

Was it "cha.ndaa se bhii pyaaraa hai" (Ek Shola, 1956)? If so, I must
kick myself for not listening to Chhaya Geet regularly: I have a
pretty awful copy of this song and have wanting to listen to a good
recording for a long time! :(
Chhaya Geet does indeed come up with pretty good programmes now and
then. It is the one programme on Vividh Bharati (other than, of
course, "Bhoole Bisre Geet") where one can often hear 1950s songs.
Warm regards,
Abhay
Yes, that indeed was the song :-)
