Why is the digital mastering on Indian CD's of 60's albums so
horrible? All sorts of anomalies are audible like pops, and
crackles. Were the CD's (EMI India)remastered in India
with a vinyl record or the master tapes? EMI India should
have a project to remaster every recording in every Indian
language USING THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES using state of the
art technology. By the way, in the 60's, were there stereo
and mono versions of a record or were they all released in
stereo? And another question, were studio outtakes of
Indian songs ever released by bootleggers? Thanks.

Hi ,

U have got a point here. Many a times even I feel that Gramophone Company
of India(HMV, EMI, RPG or whatever) uses old records instead of
mastertapes. Forget abot the 60s. Take anything in the late 70s.They are
quite horrible too. But if u take MIL(polydor) cassettes then they sound
pretty good maybe like recent recordings.
As a matter of fact the first Stereophonic Indian Movie was 1972s
Blockbuster Sholay.(Polydor, MIL).

Sukkla
