Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra
-------------------------
One of the living legends of the Indian performing arts world,
Guruji is to Odissi what Pandit Ravishankar is to the sitar -
an undisputed maestro and architect of the contemporary Odissi
repertoire. Guruji has given innumerable performances in India
and all over the world. Inspired by the ancient temple
architecture and the palm leaf paintings (pata-paintings), his
choreography is a visual delight and leaves an indelible
impression on the minds of his audience. Guruji has been
awarded the highest national awards by the Government of India,
including the Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 1966, the Padmashree
in 1972 and the Padmabhusan in 1989. He is the recipient of the
Kalidas Samman and was the honored by the Government of France
in 1995.
