Just heard the news that Shaily Shailendra, the lyricist son of the great
Shailendra passed away. Details awaited.
He is most known for having written "jiinaa yahaan maranaa yahaan..." for
Mera Naam Joker, particularly the lines "bhuuloge tum bhuulenge wo, par ham
tumhaare rahenge sadaa....".
"...dhuundhenge ham, dhuundhenge sab, par ham milenge phir kab kahaan...."

The song 'Jeena yahaan marna yahaan' greatly appeals to me too. The
line that disturbs my existence most is 'apne yaheen donon jahaan,
iske siwa jaana kahaan' - it is so poignant. I watched Mera Naam
Joker once again 2 weeks ago and was once again moved by Raj Kapoor's
portrayal in this song. The poor guy remained trapped in his little
world of memories, while others moved on. This song and 'Jaane kahaan
gaye wo din' aptly sum up Raj's emotional wreck of a character in the
film.

Looks like Shaily worked mostly with Bappida. I think there was one more
song from Aangan ki kali [not sure though] which was something like Saiyaan
bina ghar suna suna, raahi bina jaise suni galiyan, chand bina jaise suni
ratiya.
A simple composition, amazingly by Bappida who was known more for his
cacophony songs.

From the recent trends in reporting of news, I get the feeling that
basically a news editor has to have a nose and ears for entertainment,
tamasha. Its the market forces that drives their circulation or get them
eyeballs. Gone are the days when integrity, honesty would matter.
I think even noted lyricist Hasrat Jaipuri had a passing mention. An editor
would definitely consider Mika kissing Rakhi episode or Maghma getting lewd
SMS more circulation/eyeball worthy than demise of Shaily.
