Subject: Chupke-2, Golmaal, Angoor which is The best comedy
Lines: 15
Hi Netters,
What do you think about comedies in India, which was the best
ever
comedy made, although I have narrowed down my list to only three but
can't
decide which is better. The one thing is clear that Hrishikesh Mukkherji
is the best director of Comedies in India, with movies like
Khubsoorat, Chupke-2, Golmaal, Khatta Meetha, Jhoothi etc.
Sandeep Singh Bajwa
I would like to add following to the list -
Chashme Baddoor, Jaane bhi do yaaro, Kathaa (more of a satire)

Though Hrishikesh Mukherjee may have the maximum number of good comedies
to
his name, his being the best comdy director is debatable. I would
definitely
rate Gulzar's "Angoor", Rahul Rawail's "Biwi O Biwi", Sai Paranjpai's
"Chashme
Baddoor" & "Katha", and Kundan Shah's "Jane Bhi Do Yaaron" as highly (if
not
higher) than Chupke Chupke and stuff. Kundan Shah has the hit tv serial
"Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi" (immensely hilarious) to his credit too, and even
Sai
has some lesser famous tv serials to her credit. Its certainly not an
open
and shut case in favor of Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

My $0.02 worth:-
I have burst my stomach laughing while watching so many movies,so it is
really
tough to decide as to which one was the best or who is the best director
of
comedies although one can say for sure that nobody has made as many
comedy
movies as Hrishida-each one being of good quality.
My favorite comedy movies in no particular order of preference are as
follows:
In addition to the ones named above:-
1)Pushpak-Starring Kamalahasan and Amala(I love her)
2)Dial 100-starring Vinod Mehra and Bindiya Goswami(Something like
Weekend at
Bernie's-only much
better)
3)Damaad-Starring Amol Palekar and Ranjeeta(Keshto Mukherjee is great
in this
movie)
4)There was this fantastic movie with Farouqe Shaikh and a new
heroine-(I dont
remember the name of the movie or the director but the story was as
follows-
this new heroine is given the key to a flat in a building(I still
remember the
building name though-it was Gulistan)becasue she has nowhere else to
live
and when the real owner Farouqe Shaikh turns up,she gives him the gaalis
of
his lifetime-he is a rich man with a heart of gold, but without a woman
in his
life and the whole movie is about how he finally woos her without
telling her
the truth about the flat-it was a great movie.
5)There was another Farouqe Shaikh and Deepti Naval movie which had
Saeed
Jaffrey in it-the only thing I remember about this movie is that Saeed
Jaffrey is a fairly rich man and he does a great dialogue which begins
with
something like"Hawa Chal rahi thi --dheere dheere..."it was not Chashme
Badoor
or any of the more well-known ones(Could anyone tell me the name?)
6)This last one is one that very few people must have heard of or even
seen-
because it wasn't publicised much and when it was telecast once on DD-it
was
on Friday Late night-the name of the movie is IN WHICH ANNIE GIVES THEM
THOSE
ONES-a story about a certain graduating batch of the National School of
Architecture-I remember only two of the actors in it -Raghuvir Yadav(in
a very minor role) and Arundhati Roy,who has done a great job-the movie
was in B&W-
but what a movie-I haven't seen such a good comedy in the last 5
years(this was
released sometime in 1987/88 )I dont think it was even available in the
video
stores, but I'm sure that those lucky few who saw this movie will agree
with me
that it was a gem of a movie-try to get hold of this movie to see it-I
wish
you luck in finding it-the movie is worth the effort in locating it.This
is
believe it or not-a Hindi Movie inspite of its Angrezi title and Annie
is the
short form of the nickname the students have given to one of their
classmates-
a guy named Animal.

>>>>>> Yup. I have seen this one, it was a GREAT movie. I think
Roshan Seth also featured in this movie. He is the prof. who is
called
"Yamraj".

Amol Palekar had a string of some pretty good comedies in the
mid-70s... Usually with Ashok Kumar, Preeti Ganguly, Keshto etc...
Don't remember the names, but I think DAAMAAD, and CHOTI SI BAAT
were a couple of them...
Amol is a _niceguy_ who tries to turn into a "westernized" sort to
impress his girlfriend in one of those movies... was it Choti Si
Baat?
And since we seem to have covered all the easy ones, here are a
couple
of off-beat nominations...
There was also this I.S.Johar movie remade from a Gujarati play...
the one with the song "mujhe mere biwi se bachaao"... Hilarious!!
Anyone know its name? They showed that too on Doordarshan the day
after I.S.Johar croaked...
And what about "Haadsa"? Wasn't that Kabir Bedi's first movie in
Hindi or something like that? The dude was clean-shaven in that
one...
It was a suspense movie with a funny twist at the end...

One good comedy movie which I liked very much is Achcha Buraa, *ing
Amjad Khan and Ranjeet (both in good roles). Does anyone remember the
movie?
It's very light and enjoyable movie.
This was the remake of old hindi movie 'Mem Didi'
*ing: Lalita Pawar,David,Amjad's father (Jaywant??). In achcha bura
ranjit plays the role of David, while Amjad gets the role of his father.
The new version had Anita Raj + Babbar as the couple.
Another good comedy movies are
Shriman Shrimati *ing: Sanjeev,Rakhi
Lok Parlok *ing: Jitu (movie was really good)
Hum Sab Ustad Hai: Kishore K etc. (songs were real good)
Chalti ka naam gaadi : Ganguly brothers, Madhubala
Another Great comedy-Dial 100-A takeoff on Weekend At Bernie's-starring
Ashok
Kumar,Vinod Mehra ,Bindiya Goswami and a lot of comedians.

Hello netters,
I happened to watch Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron about a month ago.
The last time I had seen JBHY was a few years ago, and I had found it
absolutely hilarious, especially the Mahabharate scene.
But this time round I wasn't tickled at all. Expect for a few laughs here
and there, the movie fell flat on its face. Even the mahabharat scene seemed
loud and childish.
There are some movies which do not hold with the passage of time, I think
JBDY is one of them.
