Raat Baaki Hai, Baat Baaki hai~
The song is picturized on Parveen Babi and Shashi Kapoor at a party.
Amitabh and Ranjeet are also present. Asha Bhonsle sings for Parveen
Babi, but I can't seem to recognize the voice for Shashi Kapoor in
this song. The voice resembles Kishore's, but my feeling is that it
isn't his (maybe Amit Kumar, the movie came out in April or May 1982
(I saw thew date of the certification).~
Thanks~

I have a question. Who is the male singer of the song:~

If anyone can confuse Kishoreda's voice with (of all things) Bappi
Lahiri, use kya kahein? 'Sacrilege' comes to mind! :-(
Khair, pehli galti hai so maaf kiye dete hai... :-) The song is sung
by Asha for Parveen, Bappi Lahiri howls for Shashi Kapoor and Shashi
gets to say his own dialogues in the middle of the song --- when
Parveen screams 'Main tumhein marne naheen doongi'...
Ciao,
ND

I believe the male voice is that of a guy called Jaspal Singh if memory
serves me right. I am positive that it is not Nitin Mukesh.
Cool,
Rajesh.
P.S. I speak for myself.>
As an aside, I find that in the classical phase of "Pagh
Ghungroo", Kishore's voice is replaced by some body elses. Does
any one know whose voice that is?
Prakash
Oops... I made a mistake with the singers here (as many of you
have been pointing out). The slip occurred because I was also thinking
of 'Gapuchi gapuchi gham gham' from Trishul at that time (young
couple, Khaiyaam once again) and I guess I mixed the stats of the
two...
'Mausam mausam' is sung by Anwar and Sulakshana Pandit, not
Nitin Mukesh and Lata.
BTW, did we solve the mystery whether
1. The film in question was indeed 'ThoDi si bewafaai', or 'Ek
baar kaho' or something else
2. Bappi Lahiri ever sang for Khaiyaam (which was the original
question).
Me also thinks that Bappi didn't playback in Thodi si bewafai.

Let me say that your 'feeling' saved you from being flamed by a KK fan :-)
And as Neeraj said: it's your first strike ;-)
BTW, talking about this movie, I have one question:
1. In the song "Pag Ghunghroo" from the above movie, who sang the Sargam
part (sa-sa-sa-ga-ga-re-re-sa-ni-ni-ni-sa-sa-sa etc...) ?
I always thought it was Bhappi, but a friend of mine insists that the
man (?) was not equal to the task, so he got RD to do it! At the risk
of incurring the wrath of RD's fans, I must say that it does sound a bit
like him (but my feeling is that it's Bhappi :-)
And while we are on this topic of MDs singing for other MDs, is it true
that Bhappi Lahiri sang for Khaiyyam (the travesty of it all) in Thodisi
Bewafaii?
My cassette of the movie is one of those HMV deals, and you know how
they leave out certain songs (not that I'm complaining about this one!)
Apparently this is the song where a dorky lad slings a guitar and
serenades one Ms. Kiran Vairale in a hostel-like ambience.
(Again, no offense to fans of the above said d.l : actually almost
everyone in Hindi films looks ridiculous trying to give the impression
of playing a guitar! Actually, Rishi Kapoor did a decent job in Karz,
but as Kelly Bundy says, "I digest")
Gotta go,

I dunno... But most probably not.

Here you have your movies confused, I'd say... In case the
dorky lad is Raj Kiran, the lady is Kiran Vairaale, and the song is
'Ek baar kaho, mujhe pyaar karti ho, karti ho...' on which the lady
demurely replies 'Main, tum se, kya kahoon...?' as if she didn't hear
all his howling (actually, coming from Bappi Lahiri it is a pretty
nice song.) then the film is 'Ek Baar Kaho' also featuring Shabana and
Navin Nischol. The music was by Bhappi Lahiri. In case all of this is
not, then I don't know what's going on...
In 'Thodi si bewafaai' the young pair is Sushant Ray (V
Shantaram's grandson, now better known as Siddharth of 'Vansh' and
'Baazigar' fame) and Padmini Kolhapure --- the song being 'Mausam
mausam, lovely mausam' sung by Nitin Mukesh and Lata...

Remember Vijay Arora in Yaadon ki baarat? Always gives me the
guffaws... :-) Taariq wasn't too bad in Hum Kisise Kam Naheen,
though... But the funniest sight is Feroz Khan playing the bazuki in
Jaanbaaz!

AFAIK, the singers for 'Mausam mausam, lovely mausam' are Anwar and
Sulakshana Pandit.

I'd say you have nailed it, Neeraj! Armed with this info, I shall proceed
to disabuse my friend of her convictions :-)
<insert flashback> It's coming back to me...I have seen this movie on DD.
B.L really does holler in this song. And I agree it is decent by his
standards (or the lack thereof). However, (how can I let go without
trashing the lard-bucket?), IMHO, Bhappi composes 3 types of good songs:
Category 1: Chalte Chalte, Maan Ho Tum (note the striking resmnblence)
Category 2: Ek Baar Kaho, Yaad Aaraha Hai (n the s r)
Category 3: <His musicians play some great music>
The rest, as they say, is all smoke and mirrors :-)

Now it's my turn. Vijay Arora never lays his hand even on one of the
six strings in that movie. All the damage was done by Tariq. He was
quite ok in some places, but his usual style, as I observed to someone
was to "hold down one chord and move his right hand as if stung
by a scorpion". He played all the awesome leads/rhythms in the songs
the same way!
Speaking of this movie, apparently, RDB had composed most of its songs
very early (60s) for a bengali movie which bombed miserably. When YKB
was a huge hit, they re-released the Bengali movie, and lo! it too was
a massive hit.
Really gotta go! Payday!!
