Abhay,
I certainly agree with you on RD's master creation. But we must
also give credit to Javed Akhtar for SUPERB lyrics. After a long
time I heard such clean and rich use of hindi-urdu vocabulary.
Reminds me of Yogesh. The format of this song: ek ladki ...
are same as that of "phoolon ke rang se dil ki kalam ...".
In other words, unlike typical format of:
mukhda - interlude - antara-1, part of mukhda - interlude - antara2 ...
These songs go like:
mukhada, antara-1 - interlude - mukhada, antara-2 - interlude ...

I wonder how many other songs are on this format, perhaps very few.

The song: rim-jhim run-jhun has superb lyrics as well.
A friend of mine got an expensive ticket for violating
no-right-turn-on-red sign and he blames it on the magic of this
song, he was lost in the words and music.
How often you hear these choli-and-chane-ke-khet-mein days,
lines like the following:

bajta hai jaltarang teen ki chhat pe jab motiyon jaise jal barse

Bakhsis and Sameers should take classes from this guy: Javed Akhtar.
K-Shanu's voice in this song again shows its lack of Kishore's
depth though (e.g., in second line: run jhun ..). In fact the
female voice (Kavita ?) seems more at ease. But then what could RD
do - Kishore can never be replaced. I don't intend to start
another flame war, but I often feel there are many who can
sing Rafi's classical as good or better than him. Same goes
for almost all the other songs. But who would EVER be able to
sing: paanch rupaiya barah anaa or main hun jhumroo, etc. ?

Another high-point of this cassette is unbelivable Hemant Clone.
I normally hate to hear clones, and can always make out the difference.
But this Shivaji Chattopadhayay could have easily fooled me, you
cannot get any closer to Hemant's voice.

So much for now,
Pradeep

This is one of the few good clean songs and with the way the
songs have been going lately, its very welcome.

Ek ladki.. is simply an awesome song. I must have listened to it
over 500 times already. There are many other songs in this
movie which are CLEAN, ORIGINAL and above all simply EXCELLENT.

Lata and Kumar Sanu have delivered excellent performances and
RD has shown that all the idiots/imitators of today have no
class. They are nowhere close to RD's abilities.

A week after I bought 1942, I bought Vijaypath.
This shows the striking difference between classy MD's
and losers/morons.

If you have the music to these two movies, then
try to listen to 'Kal saiyaan ne aisi bowling kari..'
and then listen to 'Ek ladki ko dekha..' or any other
song on 1942.

random ramblings over..

later..

One more observation on "ek ladki ko dekha ..."
that I forgot to add in my last post. One of the beauty
of this song IMHO is RD's very creative use of drum (the
kind of big ones used during pujas such as durga puja
in calcutta) beats, especially the doppler (moving closer)
effect of these beats at the end of every stanza, as after
khushboo liye aaye, thandhi hawa .......................

One more admirer of RD and songs in 1942 - A Love story.
Few songs have only 2 or 3 instruments. The tune is powerful
enough to carry the lyrics.

Beautiful music. Unique and refreshing.

Unfortunately we won't be able to get more of this. So sad.

I like the songs of this movie too even though sung by Kumar Shanu and
Kavita K. But I won't give this Hemant Kumar clone THAT much credit.
He has a similar timbre to his voice and the characteristic "shiver"
of Hemant Kumar-but Hemant Kumar sang better in SUR - this guy's voice
seems to wobble all over the place- this is a matter of personal
opinion, but I don't like him...

The movie is doing well in India, according to my friend in Bombay. I remember
something about the shooting of this movie. There was a hue and cry from the
members of the Asiatic Library in Bombay. Some of the scenes were shot in this
library which caused some inconvenience to it's members. I read it in Times of
India sometime in 1992.
I guess those very same members might be watching the movie & saying "Hey, look
that our library".

I can think of this,

Dil ne mere, khwab tere,
Tasveer kaise ho deedar ke (??)
Tum se juda, main kyon hua, Aata hai gussa mujhe pyaar se
Main lut gaya, maan ke dil kya kaha, main kahi yeh dilruba
Ghulabi aakhen , jo teri ....??.. , sharabhi ye dil ho gaya
Sambhalon mujhko . O mere yaaron sambhalna mushkil ho gaya

Sung by Rafi from ??.

I don't think this song has that format. I think it has the
typical format and goes like:

gulabi aankhen ...
... mushkil ho gaya
... (interlude) ...
dil ne mere ... (antara-1)

Thus, as usual, there is interlude music between mukhdaa and antaraa.
This is different from "ek ladki" and "phoolon ke rang", where first interlude
comes after the first mukhdaa-antaraa pair.
