it is a philosophical song in which a fellow (sanjeev kumar) gets
mystified about the ways of life, beginnings and ends, relationships,
whatever. it is addressed to no one.

right from my memory, so several errors outta be in.

oh re taal mile nadi ke jal mein
nadi mile saagar mein
saagar mile kaun se jal mein
koi jaane na

(water of a pond goes into a river, river goes into a ocean, where does
the water of ocean go to mingle, no one has any clue)

sooraj ko dharati tarase, dharati ko chandrama
(something) pyaasi har aatma
o mitwa re
boond chhupi kaun se jal mein, koi jaane na

(the earth craves after the sun, the moon craves after the earth)
everybody has a soul which is thirsty of a meeting with its lover.
o my dear
drop of water is hidden in which water, nobody has any clue)

anjaane ho.ntho.n par kyon pehchaane geet hai.n
kal tak jo anjaane they janmo.n ke meet hain
kya hoga kaun se pal mein koi jaane na.

(on the unknown lips are the songs which are well known
those who had been strangers just till yesterday are now the lovers for
lives
what will happen in which moment, nobody has any clue)

not sure, but begaane is better, as repeating anjaane twice in as many
lines is not good.

Lyrics is Indeewar. I think it was among the top-3 of Binaca Geet Mala
that year. Of course that year's charts were topped by Dil vil pyar
vyar. One of my personal favourites of Mukesh.

mai.n pal do pal kaa shaayar huu.N
saal do saal merii kahaanii hai
repeating pal do pal twice in as many lines is not good....

It is not a question of repeating a poetic theme, but one of developing
it!

ok. ok.

pal, do pal is a frequently used phrase. similarly janmo.n janmo.n,
chupke chupke, etc several combinations are there.

entire urdu writing is based on using the two words meaning the same
thing, just to avoid repetition.
