Obviously one of my all-time favourites, this song has a lot of
life in it by virtue of both the strong lyrics and energetic
rendition. This is one of the songs that can get your blood running when
everything else in life seems meaningless and one gets too carried down
by the lows in one's life. What sets this song apart from others is
a potent smash-mouth nature and directness; the message is conveyed
without being too philosophical about it. The rowing of the boat along
with the beautiful chorus lends a lot of atmosphere to the lyrics. Need
we say "Manna Dey for PM ?" :-)

There is another song that reminds me of the attributes you have
highlighted of this song (i.e, directness, not too philosophical etc.).

This one is by RAFI. It is a well known song looking at the frequency
at which it is played on V. Bharati. What I find most striking about
this song is that it appears as if RAFI is talking and motivating and not
singing, and this is particularly evident in its stanzas (not to imply
that RAFI makes it that way, rather, the lyrics are somewhat unventional
in nature). Yet, the song is very melodious and has a very simplistic but
powerful message of OPTIMISM and ENCOURAGEMENT, and how to SURVIVE in the
world. I haven't heard this song in 7 years so I'll just give whatever I
remember.
