Q: Gulon Mein Rang Bhare, If version on LP is from film: FARANGI
(1964)

There are couple of different versions available for this song. I
have it on
a LP / MEHDI HASSAN - ECLP 14602 by HMV India (re-issued
from an EMI, Pkaistan record). The record does not have
identifying
title and for this song there it does not lis that it was from
film
FARANGI

The song duration is about 4:50 minutes and it has 3 paras

1st: Qafas Udas Hai

2nd: Jo Hum Pe Guzari

3rd: Muqaam 'Faiz' Koyi Rah Mein

Can some member please re-confirm, whether the version listed
above is indeed from the film or was a later recording

stanzasand is about 3 1/2 minutes...

I have another version (MP3) which has five stanzas and is about 7 1/2
minutes. Mehdi Hassan mentions that the fourth stanza is actually
written by Kunwar Mahendra Sing Bedi Sahar.

It goes like...

Back in 1972-73, a friend used to own a rare EMI India EP of Mehdi
Hassan; with 2 songs on one side an one on the other. 'guloN meN
raNg' and miir's 'yeh dhuuaaN sa kahaN se uThta hai' on one side and
IIRC, zafar's 'baat karni mhjhe...' on the other. This version posted
on the you tube link is the same as on that EP.

It seems the film version had only 2 pars, the last and in fact the
best
para - Muqaam 'Faiz' Koyi Rah Mein was not not in the film
version,
which is about 3:24 minutes long.

I have marked the song, which I have it on the LP as a version song
-
recorded 3-4 years later than the film version. The film version
made
Mehdi Hassan a very popular singer. In fact I had this song in 1967
or 68.
A friend had copied it for me on a reel-to-reel tape (along with Noor
Jehan's
'Har Qadam Par Nit Naye - film: MEHBOOBA. He himself had gotten it
from some source in Pakistan

this song and it's various later recordings is wlcomed to do so

Here's a ghazal in Farsi (Dari) that Mehdi Hassan sang for King Nadir
Shah in Kabul in the 70s.

The tune matches that of Gulon Mein Rang Bhare. I don't know if this
is a translation or just another ghazal in the same tune as I don't
Farsi. But it still is a treat to my ears... enjoy.

Surely you mean King Zahir Shah who ascended the throne in 1933,
after his father King Nadir Shah had been assassinated.
