recently we played antakshri and end up competing
for songs which starts with "Duh" (not "THE").
"Duh" se "Damroo" walla "Duh". Well, I could think
of only 9 songs - anybody out there to add more
to this list?
1. Daal Daal par Thota Bole, Daal Daal par Maina... (movie:FAKIRA)
2. Dankai Pe Chot Padi, Samne Maut Khadi Hai... (YUDH)
3. Ding Dong, O' Baby Sing a song...(HERO)
4. Disco Station Disco,
O' Chhodo Chhodo Meri Bahen - Meri Raahen...(HATHKADI)
5. Dum Dum Digaa Digaa, Mausam Bheega Bheega, bin piyai...(Anari??)
6. Ding Dong Ding,,... Ek DO Teen.... (TEZAAB)
7. Dream Girl, kisi shayar ki gazal... (DREAM GIRL)
8. Dhoondta hooN ek ladki haseeN, sochta hooN kahiN wahi to nahi...(??)
9. Dul gaya din, ho gayi shaam, jane do, janna hai...(??)
-----
What about songs staring with alphabet "La"
1. Lalla Lalla lori, Dhhodh ki Katori...(??)
2. Lailla mai Lailla....(QURBANI)
3. laga chunri me daag, chhupaoo kaise...
4. lekar hum deewana dil, phirtai hai mazil manzil...
5. luka chippi khailai aaao, (DREAM GIRL)
6. laut ke aaaa, laut ke aaaa, ... aa laut ke aaja mere meet, tujhe
mere geet bulatai hai...
7. le jayengai, le jayengai, dilwale dulhaniya le jayengai...
(CHOR MACHAI SHOR)
8. lal chaddi maidan khadi, kya khoob ladi kya khoob ladi...
9. lalli lalli doliyaa mein lalli re dulhaniyaa...(TEESRI KASAM)
10. loote koi man ka nagar ban ke mera saathi....(ABHIMAAN)
have fun!

This starts with "Ek Daal par tota..."
> 2. Dankai Pe Chot Padi, Samne Maut Khadi Hai... (YUDH)
Valid song. Forgettable, but extremely useful in antakshiris.
> 3. Ding Dong, O' Baby Sing a song...(HERO)
Quesitonable. I think it starts with "Sa sa re re ga ga ma ma paaa...." Not
sure.
> 4. Disco Station Disco,
> O' Chhodo Chhodo Meri Bahen - Meri Raahen...(HATHKADI)
> 5. Dum Dum Digaa Digaa, Mausam Bheega Bheega, bin piyai...(Anari??)
> 6. Ding Dong Ding,,... Ek DO Teen.... (TEZAAB)
Valid. One has to ignore those dialogues before #6.
> 7. Dream Girl, kisi shayar ki gazal... (DREAM GIRL)
No can use. KK recites a couple of lines ("HonTon ki rangat hai...jannat hi
jannat hai") before the chorus starts off with the dreamy "Dreeeem girl".
> 8. Dhoondta hooN ek ladki haseeN, sochta hooN kahiN wahi to nahi...(??)
> 9. Dul gaya din, ho gayi shaam, jane do, janna hai...(??)
No can use again. Neither starts with the Damroo waala Da. Moreover, #8 starts
with "Dekhta hun ek laRki hasin.." The first word of #9 is like the DH in
DHolak.
Some more songs with Da:
Dar na mohabbat karle (Andaaz, the better one)
Doobte hue dil ko tinke ka shara bhi nahin (some lousy Shanky-J movie)
Dafliwale dafli baja
Disco '82 (I think the chorus starts before KK and Lata take over)
Doli chaRke dulhan sasural chali (not sure if there's a "ho" before Doli in
the mukhRa)
DiriDara DiriDara DiriDara (composed and sung by the one and only Bappi Da)
Ye raat me jo maza hai (Does this Usha Uthup song begin with "Dance, let's
dance ?)
> What about songs staring with alphabet "La"
There are LAakhon songs with La. Not a difficult letter.
> 8. lal chaddi maidan khadi, kya khoob ladi kya khoob ladi...
> 10. loote koi man ka nagar ban ke mera saathi....(ABHIMAAN)
These songs are interesting because the *end* with difficult letters. These
are highly useful in trapping ur opponent. Here are some more of such trapping
astras:
Dil aisa kisine mera toRa
Do ghaRi woh jo paas aa baiTHe
Dil ko dekho chehra na dekho
Zara man ki kiwaRia khol, sainyyan tore dwaare khaRe
Teri zulphon se judaai to nahin maangi thhi
RooTHe sainyyan humare sainyyan kyun rooTHe
Ek main aur ek tu
Sab kuch seekha humne na seekhi hoshiaari
O my God, tum mujhse karte ho kitna pyaar
Chhekke pe chhekka
Naseeb me miske jo likha thha
Mere jeevan saathhi, kali thhi main to pyaasi
Kabhi raat din hum door thhe
Woh shaam kuchh ajeeb thhi
LakRi ki kaaTi
Koi kehde, zamane se jaake... mohabbat kar baiTHe
Tum se izhaar-e-haal kar baiTHe
(This song can rarely be used as songs seldom end with the letter "aa" and
this one starts with "Aaj furquat ka KHwaab TooT gaya...")
ChhoR babul ka ghar
Ek tera saathh humko do jahan se pyaara hai
Main zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya
I'd really appreciate additions to the above list.
IMHO, the toughest letter in an antakshiri is "Thha" as in "ThhoRa hai thhoRe
ki zaroorat hai..."

> 1. Daal Daal par Thota Bole, Daal Daal par Maina... (movie:FAKIRA)
> 8. Dhoondta hooN ek ladki haseeN, sochta hooN kahiN wahi to nahi...(??)
is the letter in question "D" as in "daali" or "dh" as in "dhoondhta" ?!
i wasnt aware that they are replacable for each other.
> What about songs staring with alphabet "La"
i m sure there must be many many of these.
>Some more songs with Da:
>
How about DaDir Daaraa Dir Daaraa.... from Andaz? Does that qualify? Or does it
start with O merii laa.Dalii re merii laa.Dalii re.....?
Though antakshari normally doesn't cover non-filmi songs, here are a couple of
them with D:
Disco Deewane .... The title track of the album that catapulted Nazia and Zoheb
Hassan to fame
Dole Dole dil meraa Dole....Suchitra Krishnamurthy
>> 8. Dhoondta hooN ek ladki haseeN, sochta hooN kahiN wahi to nahi...(??)
>> 9. Dul gaya din, ho gayi shaam, jane do, janna hai...(??)
These songs start with Dh as in Dholak...... some more songs starting with
Dh...
Dhuu.NDho Dhuu.NDho re saajanaa ..... Ganga Jamuna
Dhuu.NDhe nazar nazar meraa pyaar hai kidhar.....Dilli ka dada??
Dhalatii jaaye raat kah le dil kii baat...... (Razia Sultan)
Additions anyone?
>There are LAakhon songs with La. Not a difficult letter.
:-)) True....
>These songs are interesting because the *end* with difficult letters. These
>are highly useful in trapping ur opponent. Here are some more of such

>astras:
Agreed but I think songs ending in ".D" are more difficult than sings ending in
"th" or "Th"
>Chhekke pe chhekka
:-))) chakke pe chakkaa.... if we are talking about the same song..
>(This song can rarely be used as songs seldom end with the letter "aa" and
>this one starts with "Aaj furquat ka KHwaab TooT gaya...")
When couplets are recited or there are dialogues before song commences, isn't
there a leeway of beginning with either the prologue (for want of a better
word) or the actual song? If Ek do teen..... can be said to begin with Ding
Dang Ding.... minus the dialogs, then tumse izhaare haal kar baiThe... also can
be treated as starting with "t" Anyway, rules differ from place to place.....
>IMHO, the toughest letter in an antakshiri is "Thha" as in "ThhoRa hai thhoRe
>ki zaroorat hai..."
I can't really agree here. From the point of view that "'th" (as in tho.Daa)
occurs more often than "Th"(as in baiThe) or "T"(as in TuuT) and there aren't
too many songs starting with "th", yes it makes it more difficult..... or maybe
I just know a few more songs with "th" than "Th" or "T" :-))
here are the songs with "th" that I know of...
tho.Daa hai tho.De kii zaruurat hai....
tho.Daa saa Theharo, karatii huu.N tumase vadaa, .....Victoria No. 203
tho.Daa ruk jaayegii to teraa kyaa jaayegaa.....

songs starting with "T"

Tuka.De hai.n mere dil ke, ae yaar tere aa.Nsuu.... Mere Sanam
TuuT ke dil ke Tuka.De Tuka.De ho gaye mere siine me.n..... Bobby
Tip Tip barasaa paanii, paanii ne aag lagaayii......
Tip Tip Tip Tip baarish shuruu ho gayii... (all I remember is Aamir Khan trying
to a Fred Astaire act below the girl's window)
TuuTe naa dil TuuTe naa....Andaz (the better one, as Sami says) :-))
Additions welcome....:-))
Some words very rarely come up in an antakshari - "bh", "chh", "kh", "p", "ch".
Most vowels don't come up too often but there aren't too many songs with
them..."i/ii, "u/uu", "o", "a/aa"..... I think there are more songs with "o"
and "a/aa" than "i/ii" and "u/uu" but the latter turn up more often in an
antakshari :-) Of course the most common letters are: "m", "r", "h", "n", "g",
"l", "y", "e/ae".. The others lie somewhere in between...
This has been so much fun...... :-) I love antakshari - thought I might have
got over it but I guess I was wrong :-))) Thanks Manish for starting this...
and thanks Sami for reminding us of some songs which we usually relegate to the
back of our cupboards unless we re playing antakshari :-))

zindagi mein (well...if you think bh is difficult. I don't) luTe koi man
ka nagar (occurs in 'La' songs...but left out in the diff. section)
Couple of objections : "Thare rahiyo" actually starts with "chandani raat
ba.Di der ke baad" (caught many an opponent with that :)) It is not
"DaDir Daara" but "dadir daara"
Of course, the list can easily be expanded with some thinking, and some
imagination! It was commonplace to invent songs on the spur when your
memory deserted you...It is really difficult to say whether a song
actually exists with absolute certainity. However, with the complete Giit
kosh at your command, things could be different. All the songs above are
"real", however :)

there is one that goes somewhat approximately like:
tik tik tik, ghadi *something* *something*... (most prolly starring
akshay kumar)
> here are the songs with "th" that I know of...
[...]
> tho.Daa saa ruumaanii ho jaae......
Great song, but doesn't start with this line (actually it occurs at the
end).
Here are the lyrics of this song as I remember. I don't remember if the
Anita Kanwal and Nana Patekar versions differ in words slightly. Does
someone know who the singers were? and MD?
raastaa akela ho ...? bhi andhera ho
raat bhi ho ghaat ki din bhi lutera ho
yahi to hai mausam aao tum aur ham
dard ko baa.nsurii banaaye.n (while listening to this line I feel like the
composer actually composed it on a flute, this line sounds very flute-ish,
if I am clear enough in what I mean:))
tho.Da sa ruumaanii ho jaaye.n \-2
muhskil hai jeena ummeed ke binaa
thode sapne sajaaye.n
tho.Da sa ruumaanii ho jaaye.n \-2
I liked this movie a lot, although I haven't come across many (or rather
any) who liked this movie. I remember another song (rather verse) offhand
"achhi si Silu nanhi si Silu dekhte hi dekhte jawaa.n ho gayi, kal khud
bacchi thi aaj maa.n ho gayi". Good job by Arun Joglekar and I don't
remember who the female singer was. Its a delight to watch this song. While
I am at it, let me express my opinion about the movie. I think it was a
very well made movie by Amol and Chitra Palekar. Nice presentation and most
of the actors seemed to fit their roles well. I especially liked Anita
Kanwal's father, youngest brother (of the Lekhu fame:)), Vikram Gokhale (I
am a fan of his acting in marathi movies and TV serials), and ofcourse
"baarishkar" Patekar. Mangesh Kulakarni amd Arun Joglekar were good too.
Sorry folks to drift the direction of this interesting antakshari thread.
Let's keep the additions for "tha, Tha, Ta, Da, Dha, La, etc coming.

Here's another one:
Thahar zara o jaanewaale babu Mr. Gore Kale...
> there is one that goes somewhat approximately like:
> tik tik tik, ghadi *something* *something*... (most prolly starring
> akshay kumar)
dil ki gha.Di are gha.Di gha.Di na jaane kare kyon tik tik tik..?-Akshay
Kumar and Mamata Kulkarni.
Hema.
To the list of 'ta', please add:
1. Tik tik tik tik, tiki tiki tik tik, chalti jaaye ghadi,..
from Kal Aaj Aur Kal. Kishore and Asha. Shankar Jaikishan.
2. Tik tik tik, mera dil dole...Humjoli, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Lata.
(maybe the song begins with the aalap of "oooooo" in the prelude.)
3. Tuut gayee hai mala moti bikhar chale...Harishchandra Taramati, LP again,
Pradip.
List of 'tha', as in 'thahariye hosh mein aa loon..':
1. Thandi thandi hawa mein dil lehraye, haye ri jawani diwani
Prince, Sh. J.Lata & chorus
2. Thumak thumak mat chalo aaj mat chalo kisi ka dil tadpega. KahiN Pyar Na Ho
Jaye, Kalyanji Anandji, Mukesh.
When we 'used' to play Antakshari (those were the days, my friends), I found
that coming up with a song that ended in the same consonant with which it
started (e.g., 'haye haye yeh nigahein') made it a little more difficult for
the opposition.
Happy listenings.
Satish Kalra
Yes, it is from "Ashaant" made by Keshu Ramsay. It also starred Ashwini
Bhave.
